Complementary Wi-Fi plan

Hey guys my Complementary Wi-Fi plan will end soon. Is this required with the X7 and iDrive or can I connect to my iPhone via hotspot?

The in-car WiFi is provided by a cell phone provider - ATT I think. Once the complimentary period ends, your X7 will still have all BMW Connected features that originally came with your X7. You only need to connect your phone to the X7 for handsfree calling, CarPlay, etc. But if you want the in car WiFi hotspot functionality to allow other devices access to a WiFi signal from your X7 (vice tethering to your phone), you will either need to add it to your ATT service plan (if you have ATT cell service), or get a new ATT plan for your X7.

Most late model BMWs have this feature as an option (my F80 M3 has it). I chose not to get it after the complimentary period ended (I have Verizon) and if you already have unlimited data on your cell phone plan, you can tether devices to your phone vice the X7.

Thanks. This is what I thought. I'm with Version as well, unlimited data so I will move in this direction.

Side note: can't wait for 5G to come to the X7, as well as full-up networks.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one, especially if BMW, like most car manufactures lags behind the current cell phone tech like they have done in the past. For example, LTE (or 4G) has been available in cell phones for a long time (since mid/late 2000's), but the telecommunications tech in BMW's did not adopt LTE until early/mid 2010's - my wife's 2013 X3 has 3G tech (which BMW no longer supports BTW). 5G is not even main stream yet for your average cell phone user.

That said, I don't really understand the reason for the lag considering how new tech in general progresses pretty quick today. Hopefully the telecomm tech lag of the past will be minimized moving forward.

I wouldn't get to excited about 5G. As a matter of fact, after watching this I don't want anything to do with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...h0&app=desktop

it's like 15 bucks a month on a 100k suv, it's pennies compared to your depreciation alone. it's not neccessary at all, but it's $1k for 6 years, your leather seats or heated steering wheel costs more.

I pay roughly $17 a month for unlimited. No contract so I can opt to not renew until it is needed, although I've never utilized this option.

My kids love that their ipads link right up to the car.
