PCD Day experience
Yesterday, we took PCD delivery of our X7. What a cool experience.
So there are 5 other deliveries - several x3s, one x5, a 3 series, and our x7. After getting picked up at the hotel, we meet a few hosts in the lobby at the PC. We then go to a classroom where our 2 drivers introduce themselves and go over what we are going to do. Both have racing backgrounds (Johan Schwartz and Matt Mullins). This only takes about 15 minutes, but it seems much longer with the cars lined up right outside. Se we each get a model like we bought. There is a 2-way radio clipped inside, but we don't need to communicate back. First stop, we jump in the instructor's M3 to do the wet 360 drifting track. Here is a video of our drivers (Matt and Johan) shattering the drifting world record with an 8 hour drift on this track including car to car refueling. We then go test out standing on the ABS brakes at up to 55mph. Then came the best part - driving a small road course as fast as we could after a little coaching. We drove it like we stole it. If that wasn't wild enough, we then rode with Johan for a hot lap in an M5. Sitting in the back, I was tossed like a rag doll. Johan's real race car is pictured below. Then 3 of us got our deliveries and the other 3 went to the factory tour. Then a great lunch in the central cafeteria with drivers, geniuses, etc. We then went to do the off road course. They don't have enough X7s for the dirty course yet, so we had an X5. Afterwards, we drove past a lot with other upcoming delivery vehicles waiting for their day. Do you see yours? Our day ended with a tour of the plant that produces X3/X4 (made on the same line). I would highly recommend PCD. |

However, expect to get the car a little later than you would otherwise get it as dates at the PCD close to your completion date are probably full. Just ask. Good luck. |

Out-freaking-standing.
I've been really wanting to do a PCD. Just not sure how I could do that without huge additional cost, if I do bring the car to Alaska. |
