Just picked up a couple hours ago, and my #1 problem with Car Play is that every time a text comes in, it interrupts whatever is on the screen and then reads it aloud. I don’t really want that with others in the car. Is there any way to make it stop doing that?

When you receive a prompt of a new text message, do not tap the arrow at the right of the prompt. The prompt will go away after a few seconds.

Not mine. We drove 4 hours back home and I tested it every time. It would NOT disappear. Ever. And when i tried to just swipe it away, it stopped music playback and read it aloud. I looked in all the settings and don’t see any way to change it.

1. Turn off notifications for Messages just for Carplay. settings app > notifications > messages > toggle carplay off. You will still get messages on your phone. 2. There should be a "skip" button come up on the screen. At least thats how it worked in my Jeep Grande Cherokee. If you press skip then she won't read it. |

First off, congrats on getting some quality time with the new car!
Next, never heard of this and I've been using CarPlay in BMW's for several years. I did some digging and it is possible you have accidentally enabled VoiceOver. Here's how to disable it: https://help.apple.com/iphone/9/#/iph3e2e2329 |

Following up: making the change I mentioned above on my phone did the trick. They now disappear after a few seconds.

I installed iOS 12.3 (just released today) and just returned home after getting in and out of the X7 five times and CarPlay reconnected every time. I've always suspected iOS may be causing some of the reconnect issues I and other X7 owners are experiencing. This is just one evening of testing so there may still be reconnection issues that will eventually show up but I wanted to post my initial experience.
If you are using an iPhone and also use CarPlay in your X7, please post your experience using CarPlay after updating to iOS 12.3. |

Why do I need to lock my vehicle to disconnect from it (when I return home)?
If I don’t, my phone won’t connect to my home WiFi - it stays connected to my vehicle if the ignition is off but the vehicle is unlocked. Does that situation eventually time itself out? |

Okay so 4 distinct trips today, CarPlay rock solid, connecting immediately, no disconnects, fingers crossed that iOS 12.3 has finally solved the X7 issue.
Will put it through more paces tomorrow and report back. |

Woot! I updated all my Apple devices last night with the plethora of updates that have been released. So far, seems stable on the devices. Good to hear they're also playing well with the X7 so far too.

Mine initially had no problems connecting. I updated to the iOS software yesterday, and today CarPlay didn’t connect at least half of the times I started the car. 😬

My iDrive and iOS were both updated this week. All was good till today. Leave to take my boys to school...all good. Drop them off and head to store. Turn car off, shop, return to car and all is lost. I couldn't connect to CarPlay.
I deleted the phone & car from each other and paired them and still didn't work. Even though the iDrive showed the connection as CarPlay, CarPlay was nowhere to be found. I called the Genius before I picked the boys up from school and he had me deleted the phone/car like I had done several times. For whatever reason it has worked the rest of the day. Will see what happens in the morning. |

If you are still having connection issues after updating to iOS 12.3, please post the following so we can possible narrow down why this is happening for some but not others:
1. Do you own the 40i or 50i? 2. What is your iDrive software version? 3. Which iPhone model are you using? 4. Do you have more than one iPhone/CarPlay device configured? If so, how many devices? |
