This is exactly what I do. I do have my key with me most of the time though.

If you're truly hard core, though, you'll embed the RFID chip in the palm of your hand. Then you don't need to carry anything. Even works for nudists. Just a little awkward, holding your hand on the wireless charging pad for a few minutes.

I don't know, man. Better get the ventilated seats, then, so your naked butt doesn't stick to the leather.

I think I'll just use a FOB.

Do you have to take it out of your wallet to start the car?

no, stays in the wallet. I put it the outer fold, so there is only one layer of leather between the keycard and the charging console

OK. My digital key has stopped working. I called the Genius the other day to get help. They said that I need to take it to the dealer now.

I see the key is activated in the system but physical use of it does just nothing. Any ideas?

Can you lock your key in the x7, then use the app (or Apple Watch?) to unlock it? I do this with my F150 - never take keys, leave them in the truck then unlock door with keypad - may seem weird but one of my fav features of never carrying a key. Considering moving from the f150 platinum to x7.

BMW does offer an app that can remotely unlock the X7 but you still need a key FOB or Digital Key to start the engine. Android phones can be used to unlock and start the car, however, iPhones cannot as Apple does not yet support this feature. There are rumors Apple is planning to support it in the future. The work-around some have suggested is placing the Digital Key inside an iPhone case but it depends on the case. My son tried this with his iPhone and while he could unlock our X7 by simply holding his iPhone up to the door handle, laying his iPhone on the charger pad did not allow him to start the X7. He had to remove the Digital Key from his iPhone case and lay it directly on the charging pad to start the car.

Thanks that's pretty cool! Can you leave your key fob in the X7 then lock it with your phone. Then when you come back, unlock it with your phone, your key is already inside - so just start and go?

Yes. It will just lock your key in the car. Mind you that if you fail to hideaway the key nicely in the car, someone can break-in and ride away!
