Cargo box sale

For anyone who is thinking about getting a cargo box, REI is having a 20% off sale starting Friday (Yakima/Thule).

I am looking into one of these for when we have all 7 seats taken. Does anyone have a recommended size? How many full size suitcases can one fit in an XL with approx 18 cuft?

I just use my Honda Odyssey when I need cargo and people space. Lol.

On the size of box you need. Get the interior dimensions, the shape might matter as much as the cu ft spec.

I was looking at the Yakima SkyBox 18, but when I saw it, it looked huge. I think the 16 will meet our needs and fit on our sedan if the need arises.

Yakima says the X7 uses the RailBar Large and XXL, which are both out of stock till June.

We have a Skybox 18 on our X5 and it's perfect. It will look much smaller on the x7.

My Thule Force XL which I've used for years on my Odyssey and X5's is the perfect size IMO.

Holds 6 softsided Nike 24" duffels which are more than adequate for a weeks worth of clothing and personal items. I got one in each color so it's easy to tell which one belongs to who.

For reference, I have a Thule Motion XT XXL. 610 L capacity.

In it I can fit:

M, L and XL North Face Base Camp Duffel (71, 95 and 132 L capacities)
60, 90 and 120 L Patagonia Black Hole Duffels

All 6 bags

todd have you used a bike rack for roof mount that is compatible with our cross bars? i've got a 4 bike hitch mounted rack, but need to add one on top to carry one bike.

No, we’ve never transported bicycles. I think BMW sells a crossbar accessory for that though.
