Winter Wheels

Anyone got their winter wheels yet? I know the winter is coming to an end (you never know, I still see snow on the ground).

I did ask my local dealer and was quoted $7k CAD for 21" 752 style rims with Blizzak LM-001 RFT, which seemed a bit excessive for me.

Anyone found any better options?

Yes... find some 20" wheels off a 2017 plus Audi Q7. And fortunately there are plenty of options in the new bmw bolt pattern that has been common to Mercedes for years. Tirerack.com

Yikes. My Alaska dealer charged me $2k for my 17" winter (BMW wheels and studded tire) setup for my 3-series. Can't imagine the 21" being three times as expensive!

I do love those black 752 rims, though.

That's still pretty expensive for a set of winters tbh

Maybe. How much are 21" OEM Wheels, tires, and TPMS sensors when purchased separately? You can get cheaper aftermarket wheels. Specs for the G07 wheels are below:

5x120 bolt pattern

Tire Size+Wheel size and Offset

275/50R20 + 8.5Jx20 ET35
285/45R21 + 9.5Jx21 ET36

I expect by late summer/fall tire rack will have wheel/tire options for this too.

The 7k quote doesnt surprise me. I bought oem winter wheels for my M5 last year and thats about what it was.

For the last x5 I was able to find a set of rims on tire rack that looked similar to oem for a fraction of the price. The wheels show up mounted and balanced in your driveway ready to put on. Will likely go this route for x7

Now I’m confused. A few other posts on this thread suggest that the G07 now joins all the other latest BMW models in using the same wheel bolt pattern as Mercedes and Audis, which is 5x112.

Are you saying the G07 is still using the “old” BMW 5x120 bolt pattern despite sharing the CLAR platform with other new BMW models?

I know the latest 3/4/5/7/8-series, G03 and G05 X5 all use 5x112. Kinda odd that BMW would stick with 5x120 for the G07.

Stupid question — do you guys bring these up to your local garage each season to swap out the wheels? You load up the winter wheels in back (with some kind of protection so they don’t dirty up your interior), drive it up and have them swap? May be necessary for me going forward, but seems like a pain in the butt. May just have to go all seasons to avoid the headache...

I usually just swap them out myself twice a year. Pretty easy as long as you have a decent floor jack and jack stands for safety. Obviously I wouldn't recommend to DIY if all you have is one of those crappy small scissor jacks that come with most cars meant for emergency use only. Also, a cordless impact wrench for lug removal makes the task even easier. Nice thing about DIY is that you can be more diligent about torquing your lugs properly when mounting the wheels with the aid of a proper torque wrench. Most shops including many dealership technicians simply torque the wheels back up with the impact wrench, which in most cases results in over-torquing of the lug bolts.

Yup. Exactly that. And this is standard practice in Alaska. Some people just buy winter tires and have tire shops de-mount and re-mount on their same rims every season. This is quite a lot of wear, tear, and labor. The more savvy of us (and those who can afford it) buy a complete set of winter tires and rims, and just swap the rims every season. My BMW winter wheels for my 330i have studded tires.

Alaska tire shops are swamped with business every April and October.

I am interested in a X7 with 755M wheels but I cannot find a website or manufacturer that has an all season, non RF or RFT, that will fit this staggered setup. On my X5's I had Conti DWS all season, non-RFTs installed and loved them year round. Then put the OEM run flats back on at lease maturity. I am not purchasing another set of wheels for a leased car. Any suggestions out there or just going to have to wait to see if tire companies come with something?

I do them myself. With a floor jack and 1 hour each spring and fall. Summer tires and Winter tires are MUCH better in their respective environment than All Seasons (no season tires?).

Pictor you have a 3 ton floor jack you’d recommend? Need one of those, a jack adapter to fit the lift point under the vehicle, and then a nice wrench I guess.

I’ll be completely honest I used to change tires all the time but haven’t in about a decade. Want to do the seasonal swaps myself tho

I would much rather have winters than all seasons in our Canadian. Their braking distance doesn't compare in the cold or snow.
My family's safety is much more important than the "headache". You can get mounting service to your door for like 40-60 bucks. Or you can go to any tire shop/garage to swap them. Takes 20 minutes.

wheel-size.com has the G07 at 5x112. It would be weird if all the Gx series are 5X112 and the G07 at a different size.

I'm going aftermarket 21" with non run flat Pirelli winter. One of these 2 options.
