First Impressions GTS

Don't have a lot of seat time yet, but definitely getting a taste of its character. First off, "wow!", car is a blast to drive. The power delivery to the base M4 is very different. Base car has an early and broad torque spike, then flattens and runs out of steam. This car is much more peaky, like an e92, but with just more power everywhere, or more like a GT3, or GT4 in the way it delivers power. It pulls much harder than the base M4 as it revs out. The torque and throttle inputs are much easier to modulate than the base car and therefore you have much better control of the car under acceleration, and more grip. The steering is phenomenal, but still a little less feedback than Porsche GT cars. Turn in and handling are great. Car is very stiff, but I still felt it was pretty comfortable on the street. A lot of reviewers commented how uncomfortable it is on the street, but honestly the seats are very comfortable and you have the roominess of a coupe (a razor sharp coupe). My car is set on the highest street setting. My GT4 is definitely less comfortable on the street, and of course the cabin is super tight. While the seats are very comfortable and quite supportive, they are by no means comparable to racing bucket seats. If you plan on tracking the car often, here in the US, you will want to get some racing buckets. Lastly, the exhaust, what can I say, it is awesome, especially the over run. This is how all M cars should sound.

Well, just a few early impressions, and it is a very different car in performance and feel than the base car (as it should be). Some of the reviewers claimed that it felt very similar to the base car. Of course we all know not to invest too much into those reviews, and honestly some of their reviews couldn't be further from the truth.

If anyone is on the fence about this car, I will tell you it feels really special.

But what about Clarkson?!?

Good review. I'm on 230km only. Roads and weather aren't conducive to a real drive, yet

Great review!
Thanks for posting.
It is around 30 degrees around here so I am still aching for a real drive. Sitting in the garage right now but daily driver by the end of March!
That is what happens when you buy a GTS on the last week of December!

I know it does not make much sense but that is the US required DOT setup in order to avoid interfering with the upper brake lights.
At least DOT let us have the roll cage and you can get the extinguisher after market.

DOT is a joke. So many more actual safety things they could concentrate on besides which way a wing is turned.

You can still turn them around. Most police won't even know. It's like the reflectors

Might very well do that. Just don't tell anyone...
Fire extinguisher already done. I will leave the seats alone for now. Very comfortable for everyday driving.

I have only spent about 300 miles in mine so far, but I think his assessment is spot on.

Got mine finally last weekend

Agree with all comments.
The car feels awesome. The sound is incredible.
On the other hand. I just can't believe I was able to extend the full maintenance program to 7 years or 75k miles. Crazy, I can track the car and enjoyed and every time there is a need for brakes, etc, etc, just bring to any local dealer. This has to be a mistake.

Really? 7 year 75,000 miles?
Thanks for letting me know. I will take care of it at the 1200 mile service...before they change their mind on this.

It is a 2016 model, so the old warranty plan (4 years instead of 3 + available extension including brakes) should still apply.
I will find out for sure before I get it and let everyone know.
