the B48M30, gets comparable mileage in an X5/X7 as the prior diesel did!
All I can speak to is my actual mpg in my X5. 23 mpg in the city. Consistently. BMW fuel economy estimates are pretty, um, "optimistic" shall we say? I doubt I'd see 20 mpg with the new x5 40i. And I certainly wouldn't see 400+ ft-lbs off the mark.

BMW is not done with Diesels. The new X5 and X7 are available with Diesels, but not for the US market as of right now.

X7 xDrive 30d and X7 M50d are availalbe for international markets. Note the v8 gasoline is N/A for the European market.

X5 is also available in 30d and M50d.

You're right about the non-US markets. My comment was intended for BMWs targeted for the US market, and I did not make that point clear. Apologies!

But there is an EU backlash against diesels that is spreading to other countries as well. It is pure insanity in my opinion, given the efficiency and cleanliness of the new generation of Diesel engines.

I sincerely hope that you are right and we continue to have a diesel option to choose from in the US.

Lol same here. With spirited driving I was still managing 18mpgs in my F85. Highway was about 23-25mpg normal driving.

Got an 18 grand Cherokee limited (V6) that averages 15-16mpg

I have spoken to the folks at BMW in NJ and in Munich, they absolutely believe Diesel is necessary for the X5 and X7 for the forseeable future to meet the European C02 standards. They do not see another way for heavy vehicles until battery costs come down over time. The decision here in the USA is purely marketing, they can't figure out the demand situation.

Also note that BMW only had 3 models that had not completed WLTP emissions testing by the deadline of SEpt 1, significantly outperforming other European car companies. So BMW is making "relatively" clean engines that also deliver performance.

Regrading Europe:
There is backlash against Diesel and some european cities want to ban it, BUT diesel cars that comply with latest Euro 6 standards (basically model year 2016+) are good for now. They are talking banning Diesels on older emissions standards which has sent resale value plumetting for Diesels and there has been a mix shift away from Diesel in Europe.

I remember when bmw came to our store, in one of the videos that they showed us, I remember a moment where they said there was going to be an edrive version as well. Just like the X5, I assume will be coming shortly after it's initial release if they haven't canned the idea.

I personally would never buy a Tesla because of its really cheap interior materials. For that price I don't want to feel like I'm driving a Toyota/Lexus. If an all electric car is the goal and you can look past the cheap interior then the Tesla is a good fit.

You totally nailed it on Tesla although I think Toyota/Lexus interior quality is being generous! I think it's worse than a Toyota and Lexus is better! I went back on the x7 articles for E drive and it looks like it might be something for calendar 2020.

Exactly!
I took mine car with family to Chicago ( 1.5 hour drive ) and got 25,4 mpg
I don't really car, I manage to archive this because off kids. Lol
I was about to say only 25mpg? But then I saw it is a M5. I can get 32mpg at 65mph on the high way, right now i have about 350 miles with 40 to empty on my tank.

Amazing! A lot better than the 2010 X5 4.8 sport package I had. I was happy to get 14 mpg on the highway. Wonder If tires will require require replacing every 15,000 miles like the 20 inch 305 runflats did?

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel efficiency for family vehicles is about much more than cost. Sleeping children tend to wake when vehicles stop. Fueling also tends to set off a cycle of bathroom breaks and play that can take 20 mins. This is the primary reason I prefer diesels. That and the low end power
