Rear cross traffic alert
My 2015 Suburban had rear cross traffic alert that warned of a car approaching from the side when I would back out of a parking spot. It was also good at warning when a pedestrian would walk behind my vehicle as I back up.
My X7 40i supposedly has the same feature but I find it not very sensitive. Often times as I back out of a parking lot space, I see pedestrians walking across, behind the car and get no warning. Am I missing something? |

I don't own an X7, but I test drove several and none of them had the alert working at all. Sales person and tech rep acknowledged that it was not working but I never heard back from them. Also, emailed BMW NA executive, but he never resolved the issue. My impression was that BMW just does not care about it. While I think BMWs are great and fun cars, their attitude towards safety steered me away from the brand. Hope this info helps.

Yes, I find it sucks. Our Subaru would warn you approaching cars when sitting stopped in reverse.

First level is red flashing on the video screen, in the corner that something is coming in. Second level is the red flashing plus an audible alert.

Hmmm. I have had 5-10 instances where I have almost been hit due to limited visibility backing out of a parking sport or our driveway.

Mine works great. Not for pedestrians but for cars. It’s gone off several times when backing out of a spot.

Has anyone gotten this to work lately or at all? Every time I back out of my driveway with cars coming down the street that cross my path, I get no alerts (visual or audio). I’ve got a 2020 M50i.

Still works for me on a consistent basis. I don't have to be moving either. Just in (reverse) gear.

What I have found is that it's inconsistent when connected to CarPlay .... it doesn't seem to make any audible warning but I can see the red border flash in the screen ..... also when I pull into my garage area the front PDC doesn't kick in if I'm on CarPlay .... I had almost exactly the same issue with my LR but learnt to live with it in the end.

I am the OP. Mine still does not work, and I have never installed nor have I ever used CarPlay, so I believe that is a non starter. |

Also do folks that complain about not being able to see on coming cars when reversing try to use the wide angle camera? It lets you easily see 100 ft or more on both sides of the rear to see if there are cars coming. Just press the camera button when in reverse gear and it'll switch to the wide view camera. |

Never, this "feature" is a POS and almost completely useless. I drive as if it did not exist. I cannot tell you if the iDrive screen flashes red as I am looking to the rear and concentrating there rather than backing up while looking at the dash. A failure on the part of BMW |

To all those complaining, you do know this feature was designed to detect fast moving vehicles, not a slow walking pedestrian, right?
It works almost too well in my car, as it will alert for vehicles more than 8-10 feet away.

It's totally worthless and doesn't detect shit. People, cars, shopping carts, etc. If you attempt to rely on this piece of shit BMW technology you will wind up with damage to your vehicle. My Mazda on the other hand works flawlessly!
Time for BMW to pull their heads out of their Ass and design/deploy a system that actually works. |
