Tanzanite Blue x7 m50i

Hi guys, I am planning on placing an order for an m50i in the next few weeks. how do you guys thing an x7 m50i would look in Tanzanite blue? I would likely get extended shadow line trim to black out the grills and trim. Im thinking the tanzanite may be a bit much for such a large vehicle but I do like it on the f80.

my other option would probably be phytonic blue with the standard m50i trim. I really like the phytonic blue as it reminds me of a classic m color.

here is a pic of a Tanzanite blue f80

I contemplated Tanzanite as well on my X7 M50i order but chickened out and went with Carbon Metallic with the extended shadowline.

I think if you're contemplating Phytonic then Tanzanite would be perfect.

I did the same exact thing!! I left the grey though. I love tanzanite but carbon black was the “safer” choice and kind of an in between blue and black. I think it would look nice in tanzanite as well but I would leave the grey as the wheels will be grey unless you choose a custom option.

Ha, Thats funny you guys were both considering it and both ended up on carbon black. The darker greys, blacks, and blue blacks really suit a large luxury SUV well....maybe ill just get BSM

The blue in this picture should be the Tanzanite Blue.

Thanks for posting this....I don’t think that blue is for me. I wish the m50i was up on the configurator

I honestly think it looks much better in person than in that picture. Looks a good amount darker in person, which to me, is a good thing.

Tanzanite is far to 'complex' for any configurator.

Depending on the light, it can go from almost black to a bright sparkling blue - something a configurator that can only display one color can't display.

Ok, so I have to ask.... Why is a dark color like Tanzanite Blue an "unsafe" color as alluded to by the OP and a few posters above? Don't get me wrong, color is definitely a personal decision and I can understand some trepidation with a loud color like Ferrari Red or Austin Yellow - but Tanzanite Blue? I mean, this blue is definitely not a "loud" color, and outside of white, black is the most common color on the road. So what was the concern with this color blue, resale value down the road?

Admittedly, I am not sure I would pay the premium for this color (or any special order color for that matter), but it is definitely a stunning color - especially if you are a fan of dark/rich colors (I am too, as my F80 is Smoked Topaz Metallic ). I say if the color "speaks" to you and you want it, go for it. You won't be disappointed (and neither will others looking at you if you really care what others think) and I think in the end you would feel better going for this color, being a bit unique, than a much more common color like black....

I also have seen this color in person (on an F80). It truly is stunning and pictures or a configurator definitely do not do it justice.

I,like the other guys, probably agree that the color is super nice. I think by “safe” we mean not going out of the traditional colors people choose for cars. For me personally it was a combination of the upcharge for the color and the possibility I would get tired of a color normally outside my comfort level.

I'm another one that considered the tanzanite blue. I couldn't decide between that and black sapphire so I had my wife pick.... so we went with black sapphire. Tough choices....

Are they offering extended shadow line in lieu of the cerium? My wife wants the M50i but hates the cerium, as I spent a ton of money deleting from my X3 M40i. No online configuration yet, so any information you have in the shadow line / cerium delete would be appreciated.

It's in the 2020 order guide, extended Shadowline is $350 option.

I highly recommend the German online configurator:

https://www.bmw.de/de/ssl/configurat.../config/PAINT/

The configuration in the link shows the M50i with the extended shadowline trim.

If you really don't like the cerium, keep in mind that the extended shadowline won't get rid of the cerium on the wheels so you might have to either opt for the 21" option or the individual 22" option which both feature a darker gray paint inside.

For some crazy reason, the perfect match which would be the 22" wheels with the black paint available on the 40i M-Package are currently NOT an option on the M50i.

This is very helpful - thank you. My wife would be getting the 21" with RFT anyway, as we live in Chicago and she doesn't want two sets "like her obsessed husband".

You're welcome!

Yes, opting for the 21" will take care of the cerrium-issue then when combined with the extended shadowline. I guess all that's left would be the rear badges...

Thanks for all the input guys. The tanzanite looks very good in the video. I looked into the time line for a m50i order a little more and it is too long for us to wait. We are leaning towards a 19 5.0 with m sport package. local dealer has phytonic blue one with most of the options we are looking for.
