BMW HQ - Required Oil Service

Just got an email from my sales guy at the dealership.

Quote:
Would the New X7 be at the office today by chance?

BMW HQ has a service directive going right now for an oil change on all the V-8’s produced in the last few months.

If we sent a valet over to the office and pick up the X7 and bring it back when it is done would that be OK?
I don't have any other details, but I did take the chance to mess with my sales guy and tell him that the engine totally seized up last night (don't worry, I've been working with him for over 12 years).

I'll post more if I get more info.

LOL. You are evil!

I bet it's an engine contaminent issue and BMW want to drain everything out now to make sure it doesn't do any long term damage.

Sadly, I did not. I'll try and find the paperwork and see if it says anything.

This was a stop delivery/recall that has since been cancelled by BMW AG. I guess whatever they investigated/determined was deemed not to be serious or a detriment to performance and long term reliability of the engine.

I wager wrong oil was placed in some motors and they were swapping out to proper spec but I am only speculating.

Not quite. My original post was incorrect. There was a risk of oil being contaminated (no engine failure was found on any vehicles that was potentially affected.) The recall/stop delivery was cancelled because all VINs that were affected or flagged had the oil change performed.

Contaminated with what? Factory used a bad batch of oil? I am confused.
