Chrome Delete

Hey guys/gals,

So I want to get a chrome delete done and replace the chrome grill with a polished black one. I've seen a few options in here using the search function and I also called around to a couple places that specialize in chrome deleting.

I attached a quote detailing getting everything done in 1 shot, thoughts on the price? I don't need the wheels done as they are already black.

I'm going to assume that you don't have M sport. The powder-coating of the wheels coat is a mid-range quote compared to what I have seen (about $200-250 per wheel at this diameter).

Is this chrome delete via wrapping or via OEM replacement parts or some combination? I'm going to guess the wrap route, since the replacement parts alone would be more than the quoted figure, and they look to be a wrap shop. I don't have personal experience of the cost to do wraps of all the trim they mentioned. I've been quoted somewhere between $200-$300 for wrapping the front grill before. I'd want to know if they have a warranty and what it covers.

Also, ask them to itemize the charges. Things like the grill (and maybe side step trim) have OE replacement gloss black parts that are just slightly more than the cost to wrap, and will hold up better generally. They should be familiar with how to R&R those parts.

Thank you for the response. I will request the itemized breakdown before proceeding. They come highly recommended as they do a lot of high end cars for athletes between here and LA. Warranty is included.

After you get the itemized list you can make a more informed decision, but I would recommend you at least get the OEM shadowline grill as that would be a difficult piece to wrap correctly and have it last.

This, i don't know what the parts cost, but if they are less then $3000 total, which they may well be it would be worth it to get them OEM vs powdercoating.

Grills are about $300, door moldings are about $300 for the pair, trunk trim is around $200, that's $800 right there I am pretty sure you can get the rest for less then $2000, those are some of the biggest parts.

For the window trims, you are looking at $1200+ for both sides (see attached pic of part numbers and prices for just the left side of the X7 as an example; rest of the part numbers can be found on RealOEM.com ). Install is not that bad either, even for DIY with some basic hand tools. The video below shows the G20 3-series, but the process is essentially the same on all G-series BMW's, including the X7….

BMW needs to stop following the asian & american cars with excessive chrome accents. Ridiculous you need 2 separate shadowline options to remove all of it. Next they will make chrome mirror caps that need a 3rd option to put back to body color.

Solution for the OP is simple, trade the car in for one that has all the shadowline.

Excited to see this post. I too want to get rid of all the chrome since I didn't purchase the M Sport package. This post is super helpful!

I would advise you to avoid wrapping the grill and any parts in the front. Rock chips are going to ruin it and it only takes a small chip on the grill to show that chrome underneath. I had a few of those on my car and other people I know who had their grills wrapped have the same issues. No issues on the sides and the back but if I was to do it again I would definitely just replace the front grill with a black one.
