My car is in service having its rear windshield replaced after an incident with a cunningly hidden overhanging air conditioner in a parking lot

The i5 loaner I have has a totally different iDrive layout to my 2024 XM Label.

Is iDrive 8.5 on the XM "different" (the icons still to the left, no "info panel" floating over the map) or is my vehicle still somehow on an old software version?

I'm not being offered any OTA updates?

May be the difference between a full BEV and the PHEV? My iX M60 had iDrive 8, but the layout and icons were different from other iDrive 8 layouts.

It’s the special M design, all true M cars have a different iDrive layout compared to the standard cars.

When did the XM Production move from 8.0 to 8.5? Mine was produced in Dec 23 so I believe it's 8.5 but think the change was in the Aug/Sept 23 timeframe. Any way to verify the version?

If your is car built in 12/23 then you have MGU22 head unit and idrive 8.5

The climate menu for 8.5 is totally different. If you have the words Climate Menu in the middle at the bottom of the screen it's 8. If you have little icons like a fan, a home icon, a navi icon, etc. it's 8.5. Lots of videos on You Tube you can check as well.

Thanks…Mine must be on 8 as I have the Climate Menu and not the icons. Built in Dec…seems it would have been 8.5 from factory. 1200 mi service coming soon so appears I can add that to the list of questions to ask.

All the M cars and MPA cars have iDrive 8.5M now. A lot more red in the displays especially when in sport mode and in menus.

Not true for the XM but correct for non M cars. The XM with 8.5 says Climate Menu at the bottom with the icons for nav, music etc on the left whereas on the regular 8.5 has all the icons on the bottom. On top of that, the regular cars Home Screen is the map in full screen with widgets on the left side.

Fact! My XB7 and XM both have idrive 8.5 but Screens look different.

Was wondering, as mine was buit in March ‘24 but still had the Climate Menu on the bottom.

Remembered there’s an easier way to tell if you have 8.5 or not. If you have the icons for heated seats/steering wheel at the bottom on the main screen you have 8.5. If you have to go into the climate menu to adjust them you’re running 8.0.
