questions on service

I recently bought a 2020 m50i which I dropped off for service

The service advisor suggested the following service which is approx $500

Coolant Fluid Exchange-MOC
Fuel System Decarb with Throttle Body Service

Any one have any thoughts? Car is at 30k miles

My thoughts -- a rip off and waste of money @ only 30k miles.

I believe BMW long life coolant is good for up to 100k miles. If you're using top-tier premium gas, you probably don't need a "fuel decarb service". Use some ~$20 LiquiMoly fuel system cleaner if you feel the need.

on the DI engines that dont have port injection, any fuel based cleaner isnt going to do much to clean the intake tract, the cleaner never touches the backs of the intake valves.

the B58TU2 in the LCI is a different animal, it has port injection as well as DI so a fuel treatment will clean the intake valves.

i dont think the V8 in the pre lci or the lci have port injection

but yeah, both of the services suggested are not needed and just pure profit. the fuel system decarb is probably them dumping an 8 dollar bottle of techron (thats what bmw fuel system cleaner is) and marking it up.

Some car dealership owner in Florida just bought a $76 million mansion in Aspen. What else do you need to know about car dealerships?

BMW has the coolant specced as lifetime. Most other makes recommend changing the coolant at 100k miles. Doing it at 30k is absolutely ridiculous.

Guys I feel so dumb for having this done. Totally did not read comments timely and had posted this while I was dropping the car off at the service center.
Literally burnt $500

Did you buy it at the same shop you had the service done? If so, might want to bring up with your sales advisor. Ask him why their service dept is pushing service on to you that is not needed nor required. That your relationship relies on trust both in the sales and service.

Not sure what they can do if anything, but always good to bring up. I built a good relationship with an Audi dealership sales advisor. Over the years he became the top sales manager. Bought 3 Audis from him. Had an issue with service one time and it was resolved the same day. Seat had an odd crease in the leather…it was replaced under warranty when the service manager didn’t want to do anything saying it was normal.

Worth a try.

I recently also purchased a 2020 m50i as well. Haven't taken it to the dealership so far but plan to. Wondering if you are considering buying the extended warranty? If yes, what kind?

I just considered it but too rich for just one or two years of extension. Need at least 6k of repairs in year 1 following factory warranty to make sense.
