Front license plate

I asked my dealer on site of installation for front license plate and they recommended above the ACC sensor on front bumper
Looks like I have made a mistake because reviewing on thread says most people don’t have it and some even have it in the side? Wanted to know the hives thought

Thanks

Mine is front and center (installed by PCD). It just means they drilled into the bumber to install it. Many who have it on the side are using attachments or otherwise to try and avoid drilling into the bumber. Most X7’s in Chciago area that I see also have it front and center on th bumper.

I have a magnetic front plate mount, no drilling. Magnets installed on the inside, in the center. The mount itself is covered in alcantara so not to scratch the bumper. No radar or drive assist interference.

I was looking at DIY-ing this myself. Already picked up the rare earth magnets. Just need to climb underneath and find where to glue them on.

Sure thing. There's also a video from the shop that made it. They can make mounts for pretty much any car, since it's all custom made. Apparently they tested these at 180mph on a GT2 RS, not sure how true is that though.

I'd never be able to DIY this, I'd probably break something just getting under the car, lol.

That is awesome. I wish I had access to a shop with those capabilities. I still have my front plate unmounted for now.

If I find my method fairly easy to install and it holds as it should I may create a YouTube video walking others through the process.

Just have to wait until the concrete warms up a little here in Chicago..

Stay tuned.

In TX the front is required, but I see people without front plates all the time. I don't think it something we get pulled over for very much if ever down here. Might just check locally - you might not have any issues.

This is great! I'm running without a front plate for now (TX). I'll probably just see how long I can get by without it. All of the X7's I've seen so far don't have plates on the front. If I ever getting stopped for it, I'm ordering this!

I haven’t had a front tag on any of my vehicles in the past 15-20 years, and had very dark tint (nowhere near legal) on top of that, and haven’t been bothered by the boys in blue whatsoever. Just say no to front tags people. They look like crap.

Required in MN also, but they look ugly and cheap. Not drilling holes in a 100k car. Seen lots of telsa and bimmer not having them as wel. Your car do as you wish if you want them.

I may be in the minority here, but the front license plate doesn’t bother me a bit. Just like the windshield inspection stickers, it just blends in. Small price to pay for not giving cops an extra reason to pull you over.

Here's who I used: https://carbonio.com/

Just centered between the sensor and the camera. No issues.

Unfortunately, they don't have one that's compatible with the LCI X7. Pre-LCI owners are in luck though.

100% agree with this. I’m in NY.. front plate is required. Don’t give them an extra reason to pull you over. Just not worth it.

Yeah, in MA we are required to have front plates too, but most X7s I see have no front plates. I only got the mount because we are required to have plates hard mounted to the front bumper during annual inspections and magnetic mount looks like a regular drilled mount and nobody can see the difference.

Cops don’t care though, they will only write tickets for no plate if they pull you over for something else. They don’t pull over exclusively for no front plate. Besides, it’s only $25 fine if they do write up.
