Got it, so less about usability or the UI and more about connection stability and priority. We already hit both of those within the first weekend, but I had categorized those as general Bluetooth issues, unrelated to CarPlay.

wow.. this is so annoying. Had the CEL on for about a day. Car companies need to stop acting like software companies. You can't be pushing out glitchy updates to devices that are essential. I moved my schedule around to take the car in only to realize it was a glitch. Ridiculous.

Did anyone run the diagnostics or manage to take the car in after the update to have the CEL checked out? What was the error code?

The CarPlay issues seem to have been fixed in .50 so the OTA .53 should take care of your connection issues.

Thanks. Seems to be working now. However, the sound quality is worse on my B&W with CarPlay. Am I imagining things? It was quite a bit worse.

Someone else posted this, but I also got this message after a long download/transfer. Ironically, I had just driven the car for 30+ minutes, but I hadn't driven it for 5 days prior. It's parked at the airport, so we'll see when it ever gets enough charge to install:

A number of people have mentioned the poor quality of sound using CarPlay versus USB, built-in Spotify etc.

I’ll go ahead and agree with them. Wow. On my ID8 in the M3 didn’t notice that drop in quality. ID7 is fine too. Weird.

It seems to me, that its not so much a sound quality issue, as a sound level issue. I have to crank up volume to about 50% when using Spotify through CarPlay vs. about 25% when using Spotify through the built in app. Once you crank up the volume, the sound quality (to my non audiophile ears) seems comparable. But again - I am far from an audiophile.

Check your settings in Spotify as well (on your phone)
- Under your profile there is 'Settings and privacy'
- check the settings under 'Audio Quality' - I have it on 'Very High'
- also check the settings under 'Playback' - you can change the 'Volume level' to 'Loud' if you so desire.
- also 'Equalizer' settings do play a role in the playback sound and volume

Yes, there are quite a few posts from folks saying that there is a big volume differential between CarPlay and other sources. Hopefully an update in the future will fix that.

.53 glitch. Having dealer talk to bmw engineers. .26 the certer b/w light changed with color of entire interior. See pic.

yeah, i had that crop up on one of the older updates. aggravating is that the car will only charge the battery when you are braking or coasting, so if you're driving constant throttle it wont charge. if you flip to eco pro mode, you'll see when its charging. i had to intentionally drive varying speeds to push it to charge faster (overshoot speed a little, lift throttle and let engine braking slow down a little, rinse and repeat)
almost as annoying as setting the obd2 readiness after the update reset them right before i had to go for a state inspection.

I updated yesterday and had CEL and BW ight change from blue my color choice and today white. Blue is still interior color though.

Guess I will let the system work itself out. The CEL stopped after a few on/off running errands. Just noticed the white light today.

Too much computer stuff in our cars to provide and control the luxuries computer headache sometimes

The alternator clutch will engage and the battery charge during all driving if the SOC is below a specific %, 60 is what we are seeing, and it will continue to do so until it reaches a max, 80% from all accounts.

Just installed this upgrade and got burned. It installed successfully and was doing just fine until I attempted to start it and move the vehicle. Immediately got a stop, drivetrain malfunction, call roadside assistance message. Did that and BMW advised it must be towed to the dealer. 2024 40i with only 3200 miles on it. Good grief…

Hopefully overnight after a sleep reset it will clear the error so you can drive it. Installs often give various errors that eventually clear. Don;t remember hearing about the drivetrain error though.

That’s good to hear that it could possibly reset overnight. Thanks for the input. Now it’s time for a glass (or two) of wine and sleep with fingers crossed until morning.

Did a hard reset this morning and it cleared the “Drive Train Malfunction”, but left me with a check engine light. The car now starts and drives normally. No warnings shown in the vehicle status screen. I’ll give it a day or two to see if the engine light clears.

UPDATE: "Check Engine" light cleared during my second trip. All seems fine now.

That was me. My car has been stuck with that message for the last 3 weeks and we drive the car everyday to run errands and take kids to school. That is our normal driving so there is nothing else I can do to charge this battery to et this stupid software to install. BTW, I hate this system. 80% of the time the car cannot find my iPhone and I have no CarPlay. My son's Honda CRV, which costs a fraction of the X7, picks up my phone immediately and wireless CarPlay works flawlessly.

That is interesting that they are using a newer minor version. .53 was the OTA version so we will see if .67 starts showing up in the US.

Install was very smooth - less than 20 min.
Right after engine error light was on but disappeared after 10 min trip.
I was expecting much more from ID8.5. Cant say that this quick select is convenient due to small window size. Did not had time to check if this quick select windows can be customised to see what i want rather than what BMW thinks is needed.
Climate, possibility to select functions/menus on bottom of the screen and redone assignable "button" menu basically are only real good things. Rest is same.
One issue noticed - only solid colours for interior light elements. No more solid + white lines option which is not nice!
Rel. notes tells that some improvement on Distance control but still no convenient way to adjust in on the "fly"
FYI update was 6,9GB.
