Those just look like an annoyance. My 8-5-3 year olds are all able to climb in just fine without them.

Can you please shoot a photo of the entire car showing the running boards with the door closed? Many thanks

Thanks, but I was more interested in seeing running boards on the entire car with dark paint and M-package. I've ordered X740i in Arctic Grey with M sport package and black shadowline and I can still do some modifications (should go into production in November and be delivered to the Czech Rep. mid-December). My wife pushes me to add the boards since we have three kids (10y, 8y and 9m), but I am reluctant to add them as it could spoil the dark design of the car.

Not an M but Arctic Grey with running boards. With kids your ages and a baby, you need them. Trust me on this one. My car has all the chrome trim so it looks quite congruent.

You’re welcome. Happy to help. The X7 is not the easiest car to get in and out of especially if you’re small and especially the third row. The running boards are a big help. And if you intend to use a cargo box on the roof, I don’t know how you would be able to reach in there if you didn’t have running boards to extend outward from the car.

todd was just going to say i love the look of your trim. it's timeless. the chrome, the rims are the right size for the look. it speaks utility in the classic sense, similar to how the range rover p38a gen spoke to me.

love it man.

I wish I could install running boards on my 40iM (US). My daughter is 10 and struggles getting in. There are no grab handles either. This is a miss for BMW.

Thanks ppa. With my other BMW's I'm always finding the standard package lacking, always change out the wheels or get an M package. But something about the 40i really spoke to me, I really like the standard trim, so just stayed the course. When I placed my order it made the car rather unique as the majority of the early X7's had a ton of extras.

I could not find a part number on RealOEM.com yet (although there was one for the G05 X5 interestingly enough). However, there are a few vendors on eBay that are selling them. Most are Chinese knock-offs. There were a few aftermarket "motorized" running boards that looked interesting. And one US vendor selling a genuine BMW set for $1800+, but did not give a part number in the description.

It looks like Schmiedmann.com has them (Euro vendor), but you would need to order the parts individually as opposed to a complete kit.

Edit: Looks like you can pull the part numbers from Schmiedmann and search on US vendors. It seems like GetBMWparts.com has them (they are a BMW dealer) which means any US dealer should be able to get the running board parts...

I am glad I have the running boards, both for the esthetics and access for the young kids.
But it is almost unavoidable for the most part for them not to touch your pant leg when you exit the vehicle, and I am 6'3".
Now if I convert to skinny jeans or spandex I might be ok...

I wonder if these running boards have a different fit then the normal non-sport running boards? Anyone find any instructions for the install on a 4.0 MSport?

I have them on my m-sport and I don't see why they would be any different, they should be the same running boards. It's basically just a replacement to the rocker panel cover, so you would also have to order it in your color, or have it painted.

I didn't like the look of the aluminum on the m-sport myself, but without them my kids would have undoubetly been stepping on the body color painted piece that's there without them, even if I installed an aftermarket board.

Yeah the kids stepping on the body color painted piece is what I'm dealing with now. Can you please post pics?

Mercedes just revealed the GLS 600 Maybach, check out the retractable running boards near the end of the video, they're huge!

There are quite a few on the first page of this thread, anything specific you're looking for that you can't see there?

I have a 2020 Jet Black X7 I just bought and would be interested in trading the factory running boards mine came with to someone that wants them if they give me their Jet Black lower side panels. I live in Orlando, Florida.
