Enable Servotronic Steering
I've recently purchased my first BMW, 2016 428i Gran Coupe M Sport! I love the car however as the story goes there were things I didn't know to look for and now am researching options; the first of which: servotronic steering.
After reading forum after forum i'm not able to find a clear answer to the question: Is servotronic steering simply a software update to the car? Last edited by vinnyzbmw; 05-27-2019 at 10:35 AM.. |

It either came with it or it didn't. Run your VIN and see what packages came with your car.
---- Servotronic. Effortless agility when parking, light-footed responsiveness and stability at higher speeds: Servotronic adjusts the amount of steering assistance to suit the current speed, enhancing driver comfort by lowering the effort needed to turn the steering wheel. The Servotronic control unit adjusts the amount of steering assistance to suit the speed of the vehicle. An electromagnetic valve accurately controls the amount of force applied by the steering hydraulics, enabling outstandingly precise steering that suits your current driving situation. Conventional power steering systems, by contrast, regulate the power steering in relation to the engine's RPM. The electromechanical steering system EPS uses an electric motor to achieve the same effect. Thanks to Servotronic, driving along narrow streets or parking becomes easier as it requires minimum effort to turn the steering wheel. The power assist progressively decreases when the vehicle speeds up, ensuring greater stability, improved precision and smoother vehicle behaviour. |

I thought servotronic steering was standard?
What is the basic steering system called? How many different steering racks are there for the F30? |

I thought if you had active steering, it replaces the servotronic?

Do you mean Variable Sport Steering (VSS)? VSS is a hardware difference as its a totally different rack.
You can find out what rack you have by entering the last 7 of your VIN into a vin decoder. If you have VSS, you'll find it there; otherwise servotronic is the standard one.
