So in my wife's 2016 X3, the auto start/stop button will remember the last setting. In every newer loaner I've gotten, the button does not remember the last setting, instead always reverts to auto start/stop as on every time you restart the engine.
I asked the service adviser about this and he said it's a setting that they can program in the computer. He told me if I ever bought a new car from them that to let my sales guy know to have them program this during the pre-delivery prep work. They can set it to remember last setting. I wonder if this applies to the X7. (the last time I spoke with him, the X7 was not out yet, and he said it worked for all the vehicles they've had thus far).

Today, I just coded it to my local customer X7 xDrive40i.
Also coded the trunk close via Keyfob and default start at Sport Individual.
He will lend the car again next week so I can find more things to code with the car.

Did you use/select the G05 X5 in the App to make those changes?

An earlier post mentioned the G30 5 series but that didn't make sense to me.

This is new to me so forgive my questions.
  • Is E-sys a Microsoft Windows app installed on a Laptop?
  • Is it available as an iPhone app?
  • Is the connection to a BMW wired or wireless?
  • Does it now support settings for the new X7?

No apology needed. It is not something that everyone familiar with at the age of Apps.

E-sys is a Microsoft Windows Software for computer.
Connection to the car is via Ethernet to OBD2 cable.
It doesn't fully support G07 X7 yet, but I managed to work around the limitation of the software.

I finally coded a bunch of stuff in my wife’s MY18 540i today with BimmerCode and it works great.I am just going to wait until the X7 is added to the App.I don’t want to mess anything up by selecting the G30 5 series to code out the ASS on the X7.The GO5 X5 is on the App,so it probably won’t be that much longer until the X7 is also added to the App.

Has anyone asked dealer to permanently disable this function or at least remember the last setting? I wasn't sure if this was covered under warranty (at least the 1st year)?

So in the past I've asked my sales advisor to have service code it to remember last setting before taking delivery and they've always done it without any issues.

This time with the X7 the sales advisor says they are no longer allowed to do that.

So I purchased bimmercode and a bluetooth ODBC adapter and coded it myself.

That's a shame... thanks for the info.

BimmerTech did a coding session with me on my laptop. I'm not handy with this and while it wasn't cheap it was well worth it for me.
