X7 is quieter than an S class or a Lexus LS

I've been telling people that our X7 is dead quiet. It's one of the most surprising things about the SUV. Car & Driver have proved it with science! What a machine!

Interesting article for sure. I love knowing our X7 is quieter than an S-Class, a car I've always admired.

Do you have a source for that? I'm just curious because all the articles I can find say the Mercedes S-class is quieter than the 7 series but this article measures the X7 as quieter than the S-class and the Maybach.

I personally think it is quieter than the 7 series. I've driven both the 740i and the 750i when my X5 M was getting serviced, but I could hear more engine and the outside world. Not scientific, but the first thing I noticed about the X7 was how quiet it is. I did find a random website that has some dB ratings, not sure how reliable, but the 7 series is behind the S Class and the LS which C&D said we're both louder than the X7. I'd be curious if there was something definitive. The X7 is 4 years newer so not too surprising!

Agreed.

I own 2017 750i as well, the new 7 series use single pane window glass, but X7 use dual pane window glass same as old 7 series.

7 series is double glazed friend, I have been given one by BMW until my X7 is delivered. They gave me a 2018 7 series first with double glazing and now the 2019 model with double glazing.

Sorry, my bad. I have just checked my 750i and it is dual pane but it looks thinner than previous 7 series.

Compares? Not exactly sure what you mean. If you read reviews here (especially early on at model release) you'll see a lot of people, including myself, talking about how similar they are. There's times I described the X7 as just a G05 with a full 3rd row, but I no longer view it that way. They share so much of the same interior. But there are little differences that do make a difference, whether an available higher end interior finish, or the little bit of extra 2nd row legroom, or whatever. Biggest thing is the full 3rd row of course. The trucks also drive similarly, but the X7 is bigger and heavier. X5 a little more nimble.

Thank for the response. I was referring to the decibels. The article that was linked said the X7 was 64 DB at 70 mph.

Wanted to know what the X5 was at 70mph.

Interior Sound Level at 70 mph (dBA)
