Blacking out the chrome strip on back and exhaust inserts

Has anyone figured out a good/easy way to black these parts out? They're the last two chrome bits on my X7, and I'd love to get them swapped out if it's not too difficult. I'm thinking the chrome strip can't possibly be all that difficult; the exhaust ports, however, seem a bit tougher.

TIA

Answered my own question re: the exhaust ports. Looks like IND has them:

https://ind-distribution.com/collect...haust-trim-set

Curious to see how bad install is... based on what I saw in the G05 forum, it looks pretty advanced.

Also looks like they have the trunk strip: https://ind-distribution.com/product...ted-trunk-trim

Need to research this install a bit...

Yeah, the X5 bubbas are reporting that it's a bugger to swap out the exhaust ports, pretty much needing to drop the bumper to do so. However, X7 guys here have reported that it's a little easier in the X7, and can be done without dropping the bumper. Now, if you go for the option that just slides a black cover over the exhaust ports, it's even easier, but not as sharp an appearance.

Haven't heard about the labor part of the trunk strip, but X7 guys here have said they've done a vinyl wrap on it without much problem.

I realize your X7 is already existing. I'm just going to order mine with shadowline trim, now that it's an option.

Thanks! I just picked up a trim removal kit. How do I use it? Just slowly pry around the edges?

Also, how did you do your exhaust ports? That sounds like a real bear of a job.

Will be doing this as well when I get my x7 in a few weeks...seems pretty straight forward; here are the removal instructions

I have blacked out both the chrome bar and exhaust tips.

For the chrome bar, I used vinyl wrap. It's pretty easy to remove and apply vinyl wrap. Just make sure you buy quality gloss black vinyl wrap with 150cm in length.
Cost $25.

For the exhaust tip, I used stick on exhaust covers. X7 uses the same exhaust tip as X5. Just search for "Exhaust covers for BMW X5 G05" and you'll find them. Unfortunately these exhaust covers only comes in quad pipe design.
Cost $40.

For both options, I can revert back to original chrome design fairly easily. Just need to remove the wrap and exhaust covers.

OtisX7 I suggest you tape up your taillights with painters tape before prying off the chrome trim. I had my dealer do it and they ended up scratching my taillights. They did replace both of my taillights free of charge but told me the taillights cost $3000+ if it was out of pocket.

Also for your reference, my dealer quoted me 3hrs @ $154/hr to remove the rear bumper and put on the black exhaust tips. Here are the oem partnumbers:

51128078671
51128078672

They will show up for a G05 X5 50i but it's the same for the X7. I got them from getbmwparts.com. I may attempt to replace the tips myself without removing the bumper in a week or so, if it gets too complicated, i'll just have the dealer do it.

Those part numbers are for the black tips for the M-Sport package rear bumper correct? As best I can tell based on what I have seen, the chrome tips on the luxury package are different than the ones on the M-Sport package. Also, I have been unable to find any black/shadow line tips for the luxury package rear bumper....

Wow this is great!! Much cheaper and easier! I will go this route.

Looks awesome, well done.

I ordered the 3M vinyl wrap tape and the X5 black exhaust port covers recommended above. Excited to them them installed, then I'll be all set.

I don't understand why do these $40 tips have divider on them. it does not look natural, look out of place and does not line up with quad tips. Why not make them OEM style as well and give people an option. I've been searching for it on ebay ever since i leased my G05 50i without any success. It will be very painful to spend $400 up to go with OE black tips for a leased SAV if i can't find One without divider, not to mention pain I'll have to go through to install them or pay$$$$ someone to install. Unfortunately, Plasti dip is not an option for me.

Had to get this out of my system.

I think the divider looks fine. Doesn’t look out of place to me at all. I imagine 95% of people wouldn’t even take note of it.

I think the divider looks fine and Otis all of what you did looks great. However, my preference would be no divider, if one ever becomes available.

It's my personal preference to go without divider because G05 and G07 exterior tips come without divider and i like to go with original look. I hate Chrome look and it's just I'm frustrated for not being able to find the inserts without divider for cheap mod.It was not my intention to criticize or judge members who like and have installed with divider.

Totally get it. Give a choice I’d also go no divider. But no way is it worth it to me to spend hundreds on the OEM black part and all that major headache installing. Same goes for the chrome strip—hard to justify hundreds for the OEM part when I can vinyl wrap for 30 bucks and it looks close enough!

Otisx7, one suggestion take some vinyl film and cover the white reverse lights to extend the chrome strip.
