Wanting to say hello

Looks like I am the owner of a new BMW. First one for me. I ordered and paid for a BMW X7 40i today. Sure do hope the $96,995 was worth it. Now the waiting begins. Dealer told me 6 weeks. I have been driving a 2018 Q7 for the last two years. Great car and no problems but the Traffic Jam Assist sold me on the BMW. I put 50,000 miles on my Q7 in 2 years and a lot of that was in traffic.

I'd love any advice you guys have and already have been looking at the coding threads here. Any must haves? Recommendations? c

Paul

Welcome to Bimmerpost, Paul!

Hmm, previous owner of a Q7, huh?

Ever heard of a guy who had something stolen out of his vehicle at an Audi-dealership?

You made the right move by switching from a Q7 to an X7. I will be following soon.

Yup. That’s me! 😉

Do you think the BMW people would get a kick out of the video?

I am also thinking of jumping ship on the Q7 to the x7 . Only thing holding me back is with another kid on the way the lack of cargo room if I need to carry stroller and kids( I will have 3).

The X7 is a little bigger than the Q7

https://owlcam.com/

I have no idea how she did not see it. It's right there on the dash. With the pop up screen I had the use one of the higher mounts. It's on and you see yourself on the screen when you are in the car.

I bought this two years ago and it is great. Instant upload to your phone. No SD card. You can look in live and even talk listen and turn on the camera lights if it's dark. When you want to save a clip (instead of looking through a weeks worth of stored video) you say "OK PRESTO" and the owl saves the last twenty seconds and the next twenty. After you say "ok presto" you can then say what happened and it titles the clip.

It’s like an optical illusion. Dealer had an X5 in front of an X7. They looked identical, and in some ways they are. But then I looked at the back door of the 7. OMG it’s huge!

I haul a lot of stuff for work. The X7 is just a little bigger than the Q.

Q7 is 200″ L x 78″ W x 69″ H
X7 is 203″ L x 79″ W x 71″ H

3" length, 1" wide and 2" high is a good cu. ft volume. 3rd row was pretty small in a Q7, couldn't even get in there. I'm 6' 2" but getting in and sitting in x7 and GLS 3rd row wasn't bad. Not that I'm going to sit there ever but I always test it to make sure women and kids are comfortable there.

The new GLS is 205" long..

It was a hard choice between the GLS and the X7. Still hoping I made the right one lol. But the X7 is paid for and I am waiting for the build and delivery so...

I don't think I could have went wrong either way.

Personally, myself and a couple of others test drove both the GLS 450 and the X7. We all thought there was no comparison when it came to ride, quietness, handling, acceleration, and overall quality. We were test driving the brand new 2020 model of the GLS 450 and X7.

The BMW won hands down for all of us. We especially thought the Mercedes handled more like a truck and was noisy and under powered compared to the X7.

I'm now the proud owner of a special order 2020 BMW X7. So far I couldn't be happier!

Yup! that's what did it for me. I like tech. A lot. I even looked at the new Aviator. I don't drive fast because I am usually stuck on the expressway or in city traffic.
I fell in love with the 2020 GLS dash board. It convinced me to buy it! Right before I pulled the trigger I took it for one more ride. As much as I loved the dashboard, it felt like I was driving a 1976 Lincoln Continental. the way it rolled into the curves felt like it was going to tip over. Not much oomph when you hit the gas either.
I figured after this much thinking and test driving all of them (Q7, Avaitor, Volvo and Range Rover) might as well try out the BMW X7.

Ya, long story short... I ordered the X7. The only one that felt like I was driving something fun. Hard to find in a dad van.

It might be a tad smaller. But... with the way the hatch folds I can see squeezing stuff in. Plus if you don't get the spare there's a ton of room under that spot.

Hi everyone! I'm newbie on this forum. Just ordered X7 40i.

Taking into consideration that sometimes cargo room will not be enough when 3rd row is opened, planned to buy coufre as additional storage.

Suggest a Thule XL sized cargo box. Can hold 6 Nike 24” nylon duffle bags, plenty of room for a week’s worth of clothes and essentials for six passengers. Looks good too.

I always wanted to get this setup but my wife doesn't like it. How's the wind noise? Is it aerodynamic enough to not feel the drag?
