Tried this evening. About 75 deg outside. No noticeable difference auto vs not auto. Flipping the mode from dynamic to balanced and back again seemed to help a bit. Drove around town and was able to get what I’d call “cold” air (tho not a lot of it) in about 10 mins of driving.

Does anybody with idrive 8.5 know where the balanced/dynamic option went?
It's either too loud or too weak and lvl3 on manual is like auto on lvl1...
Why can't BMW have plain simple ac like everyone does 🙈

I booked a service appointment referencing that service bulletin. We’ll see.

I've made a similar change on my X3 and confirm the same comments (the highest blue setting can be quite frosty!).

Any chance there might be some sort of gamesmanship going on at BMW? As the X7 ages, it's gaining more weight so some compensation is necessary to maintain fuel economy. Could the cars be defaulting to anemic A/C settings purposefully (in addition to the impact caused by ASS)? This could explain the difference b/w LCI and pre-LCI models.

Does anyone know if they made any A/C improvements in the '24s?

I have a new 2024 M60i (built 7/23/2023)....A/C is terrible. Worst of any car I've owned. Turning off Auto setting did nothing...as did setting to "coolest" preference....

Please let us know if dealers are doing anything to help with this issue? I don't want to take it in and hear "its operating up to spec"...

And please keep sharing fixes if people find them....many thanks in advance!

My car only has 300 miles on it....it's the only thing I don't like about the vehicle! (and not being able to turn over auto start/stop)....

Same here ‘24 M60i with 3,100 miles and the AC is ridiculous.

Generally I have to put everything on max and endure excessive fan noise and eventually it cools down. The fan noise is oppressive.

The ventilated seats are a joke. I’ve yet to determine if they do anything and occasionally I wonder if they are actually heating. They certainly do not cool.

I’m coming from 10+ years of driving a Yukon Denali where I never thought twice about the AC or fan noise.

I’m in Texas and it’s been a hot summer but I’ve been through these summers for decades and never had a problem.

On the flip side, wow the handling on this car is a dream.

Brought it in and they said they'd have to keep the car, they couldn't get it in. I asked what was the point of an appointment if I'm just getting in line then..

Was working with a dealer closer to my work (BMW Mountain View) but I might just go back to Stevens Creek since that's where I bought it. I dunno.

In TX with a 1.5 week old 24...AC is the worst in any car ever including 2 previous pre-LCI X7s.

This bulletin seems to address loss of cooling, rather than the anemic AC (overall low cooling performance) that most seem to be experiencing. Or is this bulletin specifically addressing anemic AC?

I picked up a 2024 X7 a few weeks ago and the AC is equivalent to by X5, which is also a bit anemic, and nowhere as strong as my 5 series.

Has anyone measured the actual temperature coming out of the AC vents? I’ll measure this weekend and post. This may be a better way of comparing vs our subjective temperature perceptions vs expectations.

I have noticed the fan noise to be very loud and don’t like the fan speed setting. Setting 1 is almost zero flow and then setting 2 is quite a bit more flow and a lot of noise… feel like there should have been a setting 1.5 in between as I constantly find myself trying to go between setting 1 and 2 once the car has cooled off…

Here are my measurements on a 98-102F day.
  • Normal driving: 46.4F
  • Stopped at light: 64.4F
  • Stopped at stop sign: 62.6F

Even the normal driving temp is pretty warm imo.

Even home ac is around 49-53

Here is what I observe and I feel I am pretty anal about things without a temp probe.

Car running ac is cold but takes a few minutes to get cold. Wife’s 23 MB mage gle 53 coupe gets cold fast from start.

At light not in auto stop start ASS it is cool but not cold. Your measurements verify that.

In ASS it is warm

My wife’s car is a hybrid as well.

Does compressor run in ASS? I don’t think so.

Is there an ac condenser fan? I have not looked under hood and verified but temps seems to say No or minimal because temp at stop but engine running it is cool/warm same or slightly better than ASS. Wife’s car it is cold still at stop in ASS.

Based on my DIY with car and home AC( I have installed and have 5 mini splits in my home) and temp is in that range. My central ac does not get down as cold as mini split. My last expedition and an f250 diesel the ac was in the 48-53 range as well

BMW needs a software update on this. Engine shouldn’t shut off when braking if it’s 90+ degrees. My 2020 BMW does this… not sure why a brand new 7 does not.

Reporting back on AC temperature…

15 minute trip in 100 F weather in Houston.

Auto Max setting. AC started out at 65 F, was 55F after 5 mins and then stabilized at 47F at around 10 mins.

I stopped at a light for less than a minute and even though ASS didn’t activate and the car engine was running, the temperature immediately started to increase to around 50F, but didn’t have enough time to determine how high it would go.
