Bimmercode and iDrive 8

Does anyone know if Bimmercode will support iDrive8? The site just says its supports X7's from 2019 on but I wasn't sure if that meant the 2023's with iDrive 8.

I'll be interested in seeing how it works. there are some not so nice words out on the interwebs about it. My biggest concern is with the radio functions. Autoblog (here) showed that the favorites kind of sucked. My wife flips constantly through favorites, so this will make her not so happy if it is still that way.

Bimmercode seems a bit exaggerated in its promoted capabilities for the X7 (at least for my '22 M50i). I was able to permanently disable Auto S/S (my main objective) but I was not able to code the iDrive to shut off when I open the driver's door. Bimmercode also reliably crashes when trying to access some menus. I read somewhere that iDrive8 requires coding correlation with BMW's "mothership", which could neutralize Bimmercode's efficacy.

i contacted them, idrive 8 not currently supported.

idrive 8 requires signing for coding from the bmw servers. so might not possible

You can change that in the iDrive menu in the car.

Thanks - I'll try to find it. Not sure why the default setting is to keep pumping music into an empty car.

It’s in the doors section I believe. Check box for turn car off when door opens. Keep in mind if you don’t have the car in park and ignition off
Prior to opening door it won’t work but a simple press of the volume button shuts it down

tbd, but im not too hopeful.
bmw is signing the coding changes. im pretty sure its to stop people from coding on things they want to create subscription services for later.

this is from one of the commercial coding companies...
We can read it but it likely won’t let us write coding change to it since ID8 vehicles require back end validation with BMW’s server for that.

It’s still too early to say as we haven’t encountered or tested coding such a vehicle as of yet.

We’ll let you know once we have a better idea.

That box is already checked, but doesn't do the job. The only way iDrive will shut off (at end of driving) is:
1. Foot on brake - press start (shut off motor)
2. Foot off brake - press start twice
3. Open door (iDrive shuts off)

Not too inconvenient since my finger is already on the start button.

I've been looking everywhere for someone who can code iDrive 8 since I want Anti-dazzle and VLD enabled on my 2023 X7.

The guy who coded my 2022 X7 wasn't able to access anything and I'm still waiting to hear back from a commercial coding company.

Have you gotten any updates from the company you spoke with? If not, would you mind DMing me the company name so I can reach out. Thanks!

Nope, I tried with bimmercode to see if the version that can code idrive 8 on the i4 could code the x7. No dice

Yeah I don't know how useful BimmerCode truly is. I was looking to go the cable route with e-sys or ISTA or whatever coding program works.

I couldn't get Bimmercode (full version) to even connect with my 2023 X7 40i using OBDLink CX adapter. Had no issue using the setup for my 2013 X3 35i. Is the 2023 X7 not supported at all by Bimmercode?

not as of yet.
i suspect coding may not be possible for a while for any idrive 8 car that using signed coding.
one of the pro coders took a look at my car, only modules of limited use ( seat control and advanced crash safety) were codeable. the rest were using signed config

Thanks, that is good to know. So no connection between BimmerCode and IDrive 8 cars is not possible
