New cockpits will have that crazy slanted iDrive? Looks evolutionary to me. Biggest change was the floating screen in the F30 intro'd in 2011. Everything since has just been a variation on this theme. |

I was taking a drive on a highway today and I saw something that looked very similar to the X7 Concept, low and behold it was a GMC Dinali. No thank you. That's the problem everyone is copying everybody, no innovation anymore regarding exterior design. The only vehicles that looked nice today while driving were the new BMWs, Mercedes, Maseratis, and the Tesla X.

My only hope is that in order to make space for a license plate up front they just have to make the grill 4-5 inches smaller wicih will Make it drastically less ugly. The thin headlights will also have to be bigger that will also make the buck tooth less hideous.

It's so bad, but this thread had me rolling. Gotta' hope BMW is just testing tolerance for wild & crazy shit. I was hoping for something that married i8 and X5M styling. Maybe gullwing doors to go after the Tesla Model X and make the third row easy to get into. I don't know, something new; 100 mile electric range, under $100K? Space is ripe for the taking.

I suspect BMW is making this monstrosity to play off the Roller monstrosity it will also be unveiling. An SUV that will be gobbled up in the deserts of the world (excluding America's deserts).
The front end being so upright makes me believe it's going to do double duty supporting the Parthenon-like grille. If you're going to have to engineer a huge truck from non standard parts, might as well use it as often as you can.

I like the interior and especially the Y-sunroof. I think this would be pretty cool from the inside.
Now the outside needs to be toned down. I see a lot of the X2 Concept design elements. Hopefully the grills in the release version are smaller and the headlights less squinted and thin.

More on the X7
Ok, its been a few days and I've watched the videos and there's one with some of the concept sketches of the car before it was built, and to me, they're not so bad(meaning: the design is not so bad-the sketches are great). A little "Lincoln"esque in the rear, front grill is a still too static and heavy and too gawdy to me, but I can see how the design was picked. To me, something was just lost from sketch to the real deal.
Maybe it's the greenhouse is too tall compared to the body in the physical product vs, in the sketch the greenhouse is lower. so it has the sleeker chopped top look that generally nice. |

I have been looking at this monstrosity for a couple of days now and the only pic that I kinda like is this (at least in here you can't see the ugly exterior):

Some people say it's ugly.
My 19 year old daughter who loves cars, is in love with this concept. She knows cars better than most guys I know. She grew up around BMWs. We have owned E30 M3, E36 M3, E90 335 (still own), 2013 X5 3.5i (still own) as she was growing up.
