I have had three BMWs (4 if you count the one my stepmom had when I started to drive in the 80's). Granted, this 2023 X7 m60 is my first BMW SUV (sorry, SAV), but the AC situation is unacceptable to me. It got much better each BMW I got until now...if only the fan speed was higher. Are we sure there is not a way to bump up the fan speed? I took my X7 in for first oil change last week and had them check the AC...recharged the system and returned it to me saying it is operating within design parameters. I suspect the engine idle speed or something else was dialed up a bit because the engine seems a bit louder now. What can we do to cool down?

We got the windows tinted (some even with clear but just UV / heat blocking) and it made the world of difference. Ridiculous that an X7 has weak air conditioning but that solved the issue with us.

I am glad I am not the only one fuming over the AC. No airflow to the front vents. I already took it to the dealer once and they replaced the blower engine. The airflow is only marginally better.

Taking it back to the dealer this week so I create a repair history and I might send an email to corporate to complain. The lack of AC airflow is making me hate this car (my first BMW). I almost wish I could return the lease and get something else. This car costs way too much money to have a malfunctioning and inefficient AC.

The worst part is starting the car after it's been baking in the sun. And I live in a state where window tinting is illegal, so can't tint the windows to try to help with this.

Bummer about the tint. Have you tried the auto start 10 min prior or even (and don’t kill me for suggesting this lol. I know you shouldn’t have to) tried a car fan infront of the vent to help push air. At least in the mean time to get you through what ever you decide to do with your car.

The other gripe I have is the “max AC” setting doesn’t stick every time I start the car. Is there a way to set this so it stays? The AC preconditioning is useless because it doesn’t run at max AC (it runs at the default mega low setting). The hot air coming from my mouth blows cooler than the AC on this X7 by default.

There are some tints that are nearly clear but still does a good job blocking heat. (Formula One air blue 80 or 90 for example). No easy way to tell you have tint on when using those types of tint.

Is that allowing 80% light in? I am in NY and tints get inspected every year as part of my regular inspection. I can’t try to hide them or wait for a ticket because it comes up every year. I’d pay the potential tickets if I didn’t have the inspection issue.

yes it allows 80% or 90% depending on the shade chosen.

I believe NY law allows tint on the rear windows and sunroof. I think the law only restricts the windshield and front windows.

Do they actually put a meter onto the front glass to measure it during inspection? When I used to live in that part of the country, all they did was look at it with naked eyes. Didn't use any meter.
With the 80 or 90 % tint, you can't really tell with naked eyes.

The rear windows might look dark, but they're not actually blocking much if any heat. Adding a tint to the rear and the sunroof will help keep interior temps low.

I have tint on all glass in the car and have no issues even in 115 degree weather. Kids and wife always complain the AC is too cold and ask me to turn the temp higher. (they sometimes use a jacket or blanket because it's too cold).

They are supposed to check with a meter since NY is so strict with that now. And many dealers usually have big signs saying they check for tint and you will fail if you have tint. I guess this is their way of avoiding issues with clients that pay the fee and the dealers knows it will be an automatic fail.

That's ridiculous...no tint allowed on front windows. Still think it would be a good idea to tint the other windows as what's currently on there is not much help and mostly for privacy versus heat blocking.

In Texas they don't allow anything below 25%, but if you have a medical necessity note from your doctor you can go lower. We have an inspection as well, but with that note, they just skip inspecting the tint.

I did a recent trip to Colorado and Utah from Texas. Few days the temperature reached 111F. Didn't have any issues with the a/c. After couple of hiking our trail shoes in the truck started stinking, but switching on ambient air took care of it!

If you have ambient air I will assume you don’t have LCI. Correct me if I’m wrong I don’t believe the US models still offer ambient air. I plan on purchasing the pura.

Yes, mine is pre-LCI. I have ceramic windshield tint and it does help a bit.

After living with this vehicle for nine months now, and through a winter and into a summer, I will say that the AC seems adequate to me now. The complaint I have is that the whole HVAC system behaves strangely. There are times I can't seem to get it to blow cold enough air on me and other times when I can't get it to stop blowing cold air on me. Sometimes when it's almost cool out it will continue to pump out cold air, even as I continuously pump the temp up. I can go up to 78 and still feel cold air blowing on me. I end up having to shut the whole system off. And other times I have to turn it down to 66 to get some relief. And these two situations happen within five to ten degrees of outside air temperature. It makes no sense and can get pretty annoying. But like I said, I don't think (anymore) that the AC is anemic. I just think the programming for the auto setting is out of whack.

I'm doing a 5k mile road trip later this month that will take me to Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Texas.
Not concerned about the AC at all. (other than the wife and kids complaining it's too cold).

Hopefully everyone else on here can get their AC figured out.

Ceramic tint on entire car really helped my situation in Texas. We were 1 swealtering day away from trading it and to our surprise the tint made a massive difference.

Yes, just read that now since you posted it. Takes effect in 2025.

Now they just need to get rid of the front plate rule and I’ll be set.
