I am approaching a local shop that does custom exhaust, and would like some input on exactly what I should be asking for. X-pipe with no baffles / completely open? Resonator modification / delete? Please educate me fellas. I want a far more aggressive startup and idle, not too much at low rpms, and a lot more drama above 4k rpm.

Simple. Tell them to replace the front resonator with an X pipe. $500ish and out the door.

Tell the to remove the resonator and replace it with a custom x pipe

I also think the pipes are different on the
Sport exhaust not just the resonator which I deleted.

I paid $1900 for the sport exhaust and $430 for the custom x pipe.
The sound is a bit deeper at idle and much much louder at startup
In efficient mode is about the same as stock from what I remember ( mine was stick for only 2 days)
In sport plus you do hear the difference and with my sunroof open it’s night ab day. Really worth the $.

I sure hope the pipes are different, or upgrading to the sport exhaust was to total waste, seeing as you went with an x-pipe, no?

Would the X Pipe still allow to turn on and off the valves ? Excuse my ignorance. This is my first BMW and have never owned a car with that capability. Thanks

Yes. The stock valves are down stream at the muffler.

Can someone tell me if doing front resonator replacement with custom X-pipe would make the exhaust substantially louder/better? Leaving all other elements of the stock exhaust the same...

After discovering that the inside of the front resonator is a perforated Xpipe, I just don't have any great confidence that it will make a substantial difference. Can anyone comment on the Eisenmann race exhaust? Too loud?
