At that price level, it's an interesting modern take at the same performance of these cars. Becomes a subjective brand thing. Is Porsche still better at luxury sports suv than this thing? Classicist versus modernist?

Choices..
Imagine you only travel short stints of 10-15 miles during the day and have access to chargers at home, office and other buildings. Could be fun.

When you do this short kinds of stints, how can you motivate to acquire a vehicle of 180k? I do about 10 miles a day hence and forth, and I was already feeling irresponsable I ordered a new Golf R previous week. My wife suggested I better got a Ford Fiesta 1.0 for those commutes at half the price.

But this behemoth!? Really?

If the dealer offers you more than what you paid for when your ready to change like with a G wagon I guess, otherwise even my 70k Cad X3 30e was hard to justify when we have a mini cooper SE EV that cost 36k all included with gov subsidies.

You could add the G-Wagon in there, I'd wager that BMW had their eyes on that market.
I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would buy this over a G Wagon. BMW is in for a big surprise if they think they are going to take sales from that. Hell I'd take a normal G550
over the XM.
So would I. I don't care about handling or speed for SUV's. Granted I'd also likely never take a G off-roading, but there's just nothing like them when you're in it. From the door slam, to the locking noise, the side exit exhaust, they are just super cool, and I've also always loved the look. Plus the resale is incredibly high, I imagine this XM will likely have severe depreciation like the 8er.

Funny. I rode around in Afghanistan in them with a German 2 star. Thought they were crap. Could barely fit the two of us (with body armor and long arms) into the backseat with a CB size radio they stuck in the middle. I see someone driving them on a highway, I think small hands. (No, not actually the hands…)
The new G-Wagon may look the same, but under the skin it has huge changes. The first generation road car rode on the same platform for almost thirty years and was much more compromised. The latest generation has transformed it into a much more practical and drivable vehicle for the road while still keeping all its off road capabilities.

Still doesn't look very "BMW" to me. It doesn't look as bad as I expected but I'd still rather get a different BMW product. The stacked exhausts look like a mistake. Overall, it doesnt scream sporty luxury in the way they touted it… It's just not in the same class as the Urus or even G-class design-wise. For better or worse, I can't see this making the same statement those make. Maybe it's best as a RS Q8 competitor?

I love how every surface seems to be covered in leather. The headliner also looks very high quality. Lastly, it still has an actual shifter; which is dope. The sculpted hood flows into the grille in a way i've never seen on such a big vehicle. 644 HP is likely to the wheels and I'm sure this truck will be a gaddam rocket.

Do you have an idea how many ppl said "this will be my last BMW" on this forum, it's probably the most repeated phrase of all bimmerpost, hilarious.

Put down the $5k and spoke with the Sales Manager at the dealership. Looking forward to the rest of the colors being announced! That black though...

If anyone is in the market for an XB7 with a full winter wheel set in the Spring, hot me up

I have a feeling the base motor may not be faster than the X5/6M but I bet they put the secret sauce in the chassis and it probably will have crazy steering feel for an suv.

That upper-end market is too competitive to charge 200k and it's not running with an Urus or 707
I suspect it will be the best handling SUV ever. But do performance SUV buyers want that? And if you personally want that, how much depreciation will you be eating when you sell it?

$159k starting price is steep.
Nope, would buy a Cayenne Turbo GT or Urus over this any day (none are in my price bracket, about $40k+ too rich for my top end).
Definitely would take the XM over the Cayenne. The turbo GT is an eyesore IMO.

wonder if the XM comes with CCB?

I also tend to believe that you can only really appreciate a car like this for it's capabilities when you travel some distances, regularly. My experience is when you only commute short stints, like you state, that any vehicle will do fine. It's only when you start to cover some distance that I really can appreciate the composure and sovereignity that such a massive vehicle can bring. Looking at the size of this monster, I would assume its domain of excellence is not in short commutes.

Yes, and people are still around and BMW sales of the so called ugly SUVs are way higher. Every new BMW car is always heavily criticized but who are those buying? Silent majority?

To each their own for the looks, but there is no doubting that the cayenne is a far better performer than the XM.

I agree, the weekend outing 300km affar where you end up in situations that encourage you to use/test the different facets of the vehicle will be the most rewarding, even more knowing you will go back to your regular duties, meetings etc. using no fuel with the "beast" at bay.

Agree with you on this one. The Porsche Cayenne turbo GT starts at $189k. Base Porsche cars are barely drivable. You need a lot of options which can push the gt price to the $220 - 230k range. At that price, it is still a Cayenne with $100K over Cayenne GTS. Not a wise purchase IMHO.

Well, since the beaver grill, my dealer has to work much harder and go much deeper to keep me on board. I just ordered my first none BMW since 24yrs a week back, and I feel perfectly happy with it.

The X3 was already a hard discussion, the upcomind i4 can be shuffed up his butt when he's not going all the way.

This is also related to the total lack of loyalty of BMW to its fanbase and their recent butt ugly designs. I'am with one foot already in the MB showroom. And like I feel it now, I will feel liberated when I leave BMW all together.
