1) They quoted you a MF of 0.0025 (6% APR) vs 0.0021 (5% APR) that everyone asking in the Edmunds forum is getting for January:

https://forums.edmunds.com/discussio...hase-prices/p5

2) As bimmerdiesel stated, you can probably do better than 5% discount if you are willing to go through a broker. It might also be easier to get that 0.0021 MF rather than playing games w/your dealer!

3) They really need to spell out what that $2k+ in "Upfront charges" are!

Shopping X7 M60i

I had to purchase a car for my son about a year ago and discounts were still unheard of.

Are discounts back? Should I expect an 8% discount now that inventory is coming back?

Initial offer after test drive is only 4%. Should I expect double that?

I had gone this past weekend and placed a order for a 2024 X7 40i which suits my needs for a bigger vehicle. I wanted to place an order for a M60 but ultimately this is my wife's vehicle and she did not want that. I was able to get military as well at 4.2% off which totaled 8.2% off. Were excited as we are moving her from a 2021 GLE 450 which had some issues with the 48v hybrid system but were hopeful this is a bit better. Status as of yesterday was 112 and we were told should go into production in a week or two but delivery should be sometime in March. Were excited as every vehicle we've looked at just don't seem to compare to the X7 in any meaningful way unless you decide to spend significantly more money for the vehicle.

I went to the dealer today and started the process.

The current offer has an MSRP of $118,410 and an adjusted price of $109,060 (also a veteran, thank you for your service BTW). Which is 7.8% off, but they added a protection package of $2499. Making the real adjusted price $111,559, only 5.79%. They did adjust up the trade allowance $2K to make up the difference, making the realized discount 7.5%

I'm not happy about the Protection package, I walked so I could rationalize it. However, with the adjusted trade difference, the deal seems pretty good.

Am I overthinking it? Or should I be able to get that $2499 package also fully discounted?

How good was the initial trade offer? If this is a true adjustment as opposed to right sizing the trade value, then that’s not a bad deal (even with the protection plan thing). Otherwise it’s a case of does the car tick al the boxes and how much effort do you want to put in trying find another that also ticks all the boxes (and negotiate that price). The other option is to try a broker and see what their discounts are. Then you can order exact you want and get a pre- negotiated deal on it.

I've never worked with a broker. I wouldn't even know how to find one (recommendations?). I really don't mind the negotiations though; I find it kind of fun.
I plan to try another nearby dealer and see if they can beat the current deal. I'll also throw an offer to a high-volume dealer about an hour away to see if it's worth the drive.
The trade isn't above market estimates, even with the adjustment. I feel like I should be able to get the trade and still discount the additonal $2499.00. Although it might be worth it just to have the car now and not 45 days from now.

I have not used a broker- though after reading threads on here, I wish I had. If you search for Broker a few threads will come up with broker info. I also suspect others reading/following this thread will have some suggestions (there may be some in this history already).

That protection package should be discounted or you can walk to another dealer w/o the package. These tactics were common a year or two ago, but the atmosphere has changed to just about the "good old days" before the Pandemic. No one should be paying for this garbage in 2024!

Kept me up all night. I know the Protection Package is BS. But I get it, I understand why they have it in there. It just seems feels low rent to be told it's for paint protection (wax), Floor mats, and wheel locks (which are priced in on the MSRP). If they were honest and said, "That's extra money for us," I'd feel better about it.

I'll get a second, and possibly 3rd quote today. I'll post back the details for everyone. I really feel like a realized discount of 8% is fair.

Getting a Few 60i Quotes in Now …

I just got a few quotes for a well-equipped 60i build from 2 Chicago-area Dealers near me. With an MSRP of $120K, one is offering $5k off (4.2%) and the other is lower at only $3k off (2.5%). I haven’t gone back to try and squeeze either of them yet as I am cross-shopping this against a Range Rover LWB so I’m lookin for some advice from you guys.

I was hoping for something closer to 6% to 7% off as I don’t qualify for any incentives (my last BMW was a 2004 645 Ci Convertible sold in 2012, I’m not Military) and I am a cash buyer. Is my 6%-7% off MSRP target realistic from my your experience or is 4% with no available incentives closer to reality?

TIA for any help and guidance on this

According to TrueCar, getting even $2k off is already pretty good!

TruCar used to offer real numbers. Now, it's no better than KBB. TruCars' best numbers should be what you set as a walk-out-the-door number.

I'm in the mid-west, and I'm shopping for an X7. 4% before rebates seem average, but I'm confident you could do better.

I always refer folks to TrueCar who don't have a lot of negotiation skills so they have a minimum discount in their back pocket.

I was getting Benzs close to invoice before the Pandemic so TrueCar is not something I heavily lean on!

Initially they offered 6500 with the military and I was like nah I have this offer here which threw them way off. I focused only on getting money off and Out the door price for my vehicle. My dealership tried to offer things but I just told them after showing them a competing offer that was better than their I was walking and they told me to wait for a moment and make sure their offer was still going to be good should my offer fall apart and they came back and matched. Since I got $8257 off I took it and place the order. I think I could have gotten maybe another $500-$1000 off at the competing dealership but it's over a hour from where I was and didn't REALLY want to drive there. and to answer your question...I would not take packages over money off. You pay for that in the end where they still make a boat ton if you take their terms.

Awesome, thanks Reu, good to know where the general parameters are for the current market, particularly coming from a fellow Midwesterner. As a cash buyer (I never finance anything), I have one additional question for you guys: Are there any incentives available if I agreed to finance this?

I recall that when we bought my wife’s 2018 Audi Q7, we were offered the opportunity to get a $2,500 instant rebate if we financed the car. They confirmed that after 2 payments I could pay off the car in total, netting me something like a $2,200 savings. I did, and it worked out to a nice little savings overall.

Is that available as an option in today’s market?

Currently no incentives if you finance other than 5.29% APR from 36-60 months (5.79% for 72 months). Might as well pay cash!

Done! Made a purchase. Super excited.

I didn't quite get the numbers I was hoping for, I honestly feel like there was maybe $2k left on the table. However, the X7 was in the showroom, and we pick it up today from the dealership closest my home. The sales crew was excellent and just an absolute joy to work with.

Great service and no wait, Happy wife, $2k is worth it to me.

Here's our deal;
X7 M60i Marina Bay Blue
MSRP $118,410
Discount $6170
Military Rebate $4000 (id.me required, discount is only $500 if you use BMW finance. Weird right?)
Protection Package $2499
Trade increase of $2500 (Washed Protection pkg)
Taxable fees $399
Title, tag transfer $194

Total Discounts and concessions of $10,171 or 8.6%
Although, for the record keepers out there, you can't count the trade negotiation, so it's technically a 6.5% discount and only 5.2% for those who don't get a veteran discount.

They have two more X7 M60i SUVs on the lot. PM me if you want contact info.

Reu2 - Congrats on closing the deal, that’s an awesome color! I’m shopping the best price from 3 different dealers for a $120k build on a 60i and so far have an offer of 4.25% below MSRP, but I’m am hoping to get closer to 6% if I can (sadly, I don’t qualify for any other incentives). I’m going to test drive a 60i on Saturday and will try to push for a bigger discount, so your update is timely to help set my expectations

Ok, please grant me a minute for a mini rant….

I just got off the phone with a RR Dealer here in Chicago who quoted me their price for a new (but sitting on their lot) Range Rover P530 (with the previous BMW V8 engine). With an MSRP of $144k (which is already high), they're asking for an additional $20k "Market Adjustment" (ADM by another lame name) for a $166k sticker price for a dealer-spec car! I was gob smacked.

I can get a fully loaded X60i with the NEW BMW V8 engine at 5% UNDER MSRP and a custom build that will deliver in 2 months. So I can either pay $166k with an ADM for a dealer-spec’s RR or $113k for a custom-built X60i! There is not reason in the world for a $56k difference between these cars. Who on earth is paying these kind of prices for a non-special 7-seat SUV??

Rant over, I’ll be quiet now…

We test-drove the Range Rover. I know it's supposed to be "more refined". We didn't like it better than the BMW X7 or the Mercedes GLS. The X7 felt equally refined but also still more fun when you wanted it to be. It responds faster and more confidently than the others too.

We also appreciate the more aggressive styling over the incredibly dull looks of the GLS or Range Rover. I will say I disliked the X7's split lights and huge kidney grill at first, but they grew on me over the time I was shopping around the other brands. My wife hated the Mercedes interior. She loves the crazy Crytal headlights and controls. We both like the S68 engine!

We also drove some of the US-brand SUVs that have gotten so stupidly big. Did we stop trying to make refined cars in favor of just making literally the biggest? I thought that was supposed to be a joke, now it feels like reality.

You tell me I can have the BMW, easily the most connected and well-tuned of the bunch, without paying pandemic prices? No brainer to me!

I think 4% is decent without any other incentives and for a custom order. You could push harder for a car they had on the lot. OR even one built that they could trade for.

As long as there are no other taxable fees over the typical delivery and doc around $400. You could take that deal and walk away feeling confident you didn't get ripped off.
