Comfortable seats? What a joke
Hi Guys,
I would like to ask you about seats comfort in lower part. I have a brand new X7 since January and can not stand the lower seat part. These are massage seat. The lower seat part is devides to 3 stripes in driving direction. The middle stripe of lower seat is the highest. I do not know if this should make woman feel better but I do not feel comfortable at all. The middle part feels hard and uncomfortable and it press my butt part. Does anyone feel the same??? I have asked my friends to try my seat and some of them could feel uncomfort ans some of them not. But I definitely feel no comfort at all. Please see attached pictures if also have that center stripe in higher position. Thanks a lot |

I feel the same about the butt comfort being less than expected. But overall, it takes a couple hours for it to be an issue and then I just turn on the massagers.

They are pretty horrendous. I've got a 24 with the executive package (massaging seats) and they are like sitting on a slightly padded bag of bowling balls. For me they are too small/narrow and the bolstering on the sides too hard.

You guys seem to be in the minority with the seat comfort gripes. I suppose it’s got a lot to do with body types as well though.
I’m 6’7” 250lb and find them quite comfortable, even on longer rides. |

You aren’t alone. My ventilated/massage Merino seats are much less comfortable than the Sensafin non-massage seats I had before. Even made a post about it here

I'd be curious to know of the people who find their seats comfortable versus the people who find them uncomfortable whether or not they have massage or not.

Count me in the uncomfortable massage seats group. Wish the massage seats were delete-able but can't get the other goodies without it.

I think the sweet spot is multi-contour seats without massage. However, for trips under 3 hours, they aren’t bad. Reference: 6’2 200# |

I have the Merino with massage and both my wife and I love them. We've driven it for almost 16 hours straight and multiple 10 hr trips and the comfort is much better and we don't feel as tired afterwards. I just thinks it takes time to break them in. We've used leather conditioner and after 30K miles, they feel really good to us.

I have had mine (my25 merino, massage) for a few days and drove it for around 120 miles on the highway. Didnt notice this issue discussed here. However, BMW seats are stiffer than other brands. Like less padding inside the seats. The car I traded in was an Audi A8 and the delta between seat comfort was noticeable.

For me the discomfort is on the seam ridges on the outside edge of upper and especially lower portion. Most uncomfortable seats ever in about the 15 BMWs I have owned.

I'm in a 7 series loaner right now and the seats are the most comfortable I've ever experienced in a vehicle. They completely outclass the X7 even though the X7 was more expensive.
I don't understand why BMW (and Mercedes/Audi in turn) don't give their 7/S/A8 variant SUVs (X7/GLS/Q7) the same treatment as the sedans, especially when the SUVs are more popular. Makes zero sense. |

I had a 2024 X5 with sensafin and without ventilated or massage seat. I now have a 25 X7 with Merino, massage, ventilation and I think this seat is firmer/stiffer than what I had on X5. The hard part is I am not sure if this is due to the massage/ventilation machineary or it is because of the sensafin seats stiching patterns that allows for more cushion/flex on the seats

On my 3rd 2200 mile rode trip and love the seats. I always run the ventilation on low and use the massager after 6 hours of straight driving. I am 6’2” 188 lbs. Wife and 2 teens have no issues either.
These seats were designed by a team of osteopaths and not by La-Z-Boy. |

What I can see from your reactions and what I have experienced is that every color of leather has a different seat comfort. Why the BMW do that? I have tested white leather seats and nobody from dealership warned me that I should expect different comfort if I choose other leather color. I do not feel that I sit INSIDE my seat (to be in comfort where the foam is around me) i so feel I sit on the TOP of my seat. May be I am not heavy enough to squeze the foam and get in the seat. What can I say. Little comfusing when you pay $130K and waiting 6 months and you get car with different seats compare what tested at dealership.

I would bet that bmw has a different suppliers for seats. White leather is softer for sure and also little different foam cushion inside = more comfortable. I can feel difference by only touch the seats. And what is most important for me the 3 stripes on white leather seats are not so bloated. When you close your eyes and touch white leather seat you would not say that there are 3 stripes it feels like one piece. When I touch my seat structure I can feel those stripes very easy.

I would try something like this if you think the seats are too firm. May help.

A year ago, after buying a car with the multi-comfort seats with massage and ventilation, I felt the same way. Now, after 19,000 miles, including two 7,000 mile road trips, they’re great.
I had a loaner today with sport seats, and it was totally uncomfortable. But hey - it’s a change, right? |
