Does the X7 have a Digital Key?

Anyone know if this is a standard option on the x7? I recently had a buddy get a 2021 x5 and his car came with a digital key. I picked up my new x7 yesterday and I asked about the digitial key and the salesperson said it doesn't come with one.

Wondering if it was an option that was removed due to the chip shortage. The only ones I was aware of was the harmon sound system, enhanced bluetooth, wireless charging. Not sure if it has something to do with wireless charging since I think my buddy places his card somewhere in that spot.

What do you mean by digital key? If you are referring to using iphone as key then it should have it.

Just ordered an X3. And the Digital Key has been deleted on the order form. Salesman is in the process of following up on this.

Yep 21’s have it (post summer 2020 build). You set it up via the mybmw app and once the card is in your digital wallet you can invite 5 other users to have access based on parameters you set.

I think OP means the actual card. I am waiting for my x7 and wanted to ask the same thing. I believe they include the key with the owners manual I believe, it has 2 card slots in it and I think you get 1 card with purchase.

CGJ999 I don't think the X3 has the digital key access, it is one of those vehicles that BMW updated with iDrive, but they didn't fully update it. I have a '21 X3MC and it is not on it.

I also wanted to ask if anyone knows what the empty button is on the third row for those with cold weather package, I always see the same button empty on every vehicle, not sure what it is for as I have seen fully loaded cars with the same missing button. (Its in the third row on right side, before the heated seat button)

Thanks all for the responses! Yes, I meant the physical credit card key. When I went with my friend a few weeks ago to pick up his 21 x5 they gave him the card and the genius help him set it up. it unlocks the doors by taping it with the card and he placed the card in the tray by the cupholders to start and drive it.

I thought it was pretty cool and when I picked up my x7 I asked the sales guy if mine had the digital key and he said he didn't think so. I was some what disappointed and was thinking how does the x5 have it and not the x7.

If using my phone as a digital key that would be a cool option too. I emailed my sales guy to double check about the key so I will also ask about using it via my phone. Actully when I picked up my car there was no genius available so I skipped it so I could drive my car to the ceramic coating place. I will probably go back after I get the car back and speak with a genius.

That's a bummer! I know I was disappointed. Not the end of the world because there is still a lot of cool tech.

Man, that's awesome! Even if I don't get the key it would be cool to have the iOS key.
My build was on June 13th and I am fearful if it was pulled as one of the things due to the chip shortage like enhanced bluetooth and wireless charging.

Check your manuals/books. Mine was stuck in the middle of one of the manuals.
Also they are not expensive, you can pick them up at the dealer's parts dept for about $25 or so and program it yourself to work with the car (assuming the car has the NFC reader).

Oh that's good to know. My x7 is at the shop getting it's ceramic coating done but now I am tempted to drive there tomorrow and check the owners manual.

Not sure how to tell if the car has the nfc reader.

BMW needs to update the July 2020 build X7s to be able to use the iOS key. They advertised it for that time and then changed to 2021 builds on. It's been confirmed there is no additional hardware, they just need to enable the VINs. Come on BMW… do the right thing!!!

I actually see the option on "my bmw" app. So I must have the iOS option. I just need to set it up.

Do you have a 2020 or 2021? What is your month/year build date?

Ok that makes sense then. I have a 2020 and don't have that feature. Just making sure I wasn't missing anything.

On the 5 in Norway they have now deleted the digital key from the comfort access. This is because of the chip shortage.

My car was built in January and has it. So this is something they have done now in July.

I believe the NFC reader was being deleted from US model cars because of the shortage, also.

To the OP - does your car have the RFID reader / wireless charger behind the cupholders?

It should still have nfc without wireless charging - that pad w the phone icon still puts in the work for digital key and Apple car key.

I dropped off my x7 directly to the ceramic shop and still haven't got it back so I can't check to see what's behind the cup holders. Too my knowledge they deleted the wireless charger and enhanced Bluetooth but they never notified me of anything else being removed.

I'll see if I can drop by the detail shop and look in the car and take a pic. Also I had contacted my sales guy and he has told me to double check the owners manual and said if it's not in there that they might need to order me one. This leads me to believe it should have came with it.

I was a mid-May build, and it did come with the little credit card digital key. When I got home after pick-up, I thought I lost it in the shuffle of papers, and was freaking out. And of course I've never used it once anyways
