MY change over question
I am looking to lease a new X7 in May. However, I think I will be weeks away from the 2021 MY change over and perhaps a refresh? Should I try to figure out a way to wait for the changeover which I believe is in August? Not sure what to do. Thanks.

I highly doubt there will be a refresh for MY21 already. After all, MY21 is only the third MY for the G07.
I don't see a refresh coming earlier than MY22...

You can check the graph at the bottom of the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_BMW_vehicles for model changes. 7 year life cycle is not far off.

Who redesigns every 5 years? I can name a pile of models that haven't been redesigned in 10 years or more, nobody does it every 5 years, 7-10 is maybe the average.

The only recent BMW that I can think of that was redesigned in 5 years was F85/86. There may be a couple more but I think the standard is still 7 years or longer for a complete redesign. I've spent some time working with auto suppliers and it is so easy to screw up new model launch that I am sure that none of the OEMs want to shorten the redesign cycle.

that is because the f15/f85 were built on the e70 chassis. it had a short life because it was a substantial refresh not a ground up new chassis and model.

The US and Japanese automakers follow the schedule that you described below. Not the Germans. Back in the days, it was normal for Porsche and Mercedes to go on a model change every 8 years.

Yep I heard that. FWIW, I had both the F86 and the previous model X6M and found the two to be completely different. F86 was a significantly improved car in driving dynamics. I think the new transmission made a huge difference also.

i too had e70 x5m and f15 and f85... they felt different but the steering was far better in the e70. that is my only complaint between the two. the f15 and the f85 were far more refined and geared more for daily driving with passenger comfort. imo.
