I thought the opposite, actually. We'll see what the final product looks like but right now I'm not impressed.

The X7 is luckily not one of the BMW models that is slated to get idrive 8.

BMW is still working on getting the iDrive 7 up to speed. I was a beta tester in 2019 of iDrive 7 in a G05 X5 50i and BMW promised so many features then screwed over the 2019 owners with features that never came. Then releasing all new iDrive7 hardware for 2020 models that actually had those initial promised features. 2019 models were all left as a one year limited/obsolete 1st Gen iDrive7. Trust me, the iDrive 8 will be a friggen nightmare for years. It’s obviously a MB “one screen”design that MB is moving away from. BMW now still lags behind with OTA updates for iDrive7. Finally I have a interface system that is reasonably reliable and does more than I ever need it to do.

I would not be surprised if BMW is rushing the iDrive8 into service as damage control for their upcoming electric vehicles that tested poorly from their horrific styling.

Interesting. Will watch how this develops. Think it's great they're finally going to 5G. Looks like no X models going iDrive 8 for now

I grow into how it looks after a few weeks with most devices. I hate it when I am limited by what all I can do though. It looks like iDrive 8 might satisfy some more of the things I wish I could do in iDrive 7

I'm willing to give it time but right now I'm not too excited. The graphics look too bland.

https://techcrunch.com/2021/03/15/bm...rating-system/

“ As for current cars with the iDrive 7, Weber noted that those cars will get some of the features from iDrive 8 that can be ported back to it — and iDrive 7 will continue to get updates as well.”

And Weber said. “All the things — and the good and interesting new things from iD8 that can be transferred to iD7, iD7 we’ll get those upgrades. But like a particular function on a phone, not all of them can be transferred back to the previous generation. So most of it can be transferred, but not all of them. But certainly, we will continue to work on updating the previous generation. We won’t stop that.”

Yeah, I'm interested in what new stuff we'll get with our X7 iDrive 7's.
