Around here the dealers make you sign a waiver stating that you are aware the vehicle has Summer Performance tires or there isn't a spare or both etc. Too many people are not informed or aware and then blame the dealership or sales person. To mitigate risk and liability they now request that you sign a waiver. They used to do the same for navigation saying that the vehicle has the most up to date software and that you acknowledge that in the future it may not reflect what you are driving on and an update may be required. Whenever they presented that document I would ask them to show me the date and version of the maps. It was never up to date and they would have to update them for free in order for me to sign. So pro-tip if this happens to you negotiate the tire set as part of the deal and the navigation software update (obviously this only for vehicles without OTA updates or three year map updates included).

When I ordered my wife's m50i, I ordered the all-season 21" wheels and tires. My sales guy asked me why didn't I go with the standard 22" summer, as that was the most popular choice among the typical X7 clientels. I told him that I don't want to spend $4500 on another set of wheels and tires for a family van.

in addition you can always sell your wheels & tires to offset costs. you can't sell the receipts from your car rental.
