Rear Brake Pad Service - from 11000kms to 800kms?

First warning came up on my 328i.

This morning when I was driving, the service indicator was still at 11000kms, but then when I went out earlier tonight, it went from that down to 900kms, and another few kms later and starting again, 800kms. Checked in the Service Required menu, Rear Brake Pads warning came on.

However, I did a quick eyeball and finger test, seems like I still have a lot of pad left? Car only has 43k kms on it now, seems a little too early for rear brakes?

(I did have my front replaced by the dealer as I was complaining they were vibrating when I first test drove...)

The pad on the pic is still fine and should last another 10'000-20'000 Miles. It could be (in theory) that the inner pad is down. The inner pad has the sensor. So have a look at the inner pads as well.

Have the same exact issue was 50000km and went suddenly down to 3000 then now 500km; I am planning on unmounting the wheels this weekend and check the pads.

Thanks. Going to take the wheel off this weekend.

Any suggestions on pads? Currently looking at ATE 603859, Akebono EUR1613 or Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic 105.16130. Used Hawk Ceramic before and they somehow squeal like no tomorrow. Also the Akebono has a footnote saying "includes sensor" ?

Again your paid looks fine to me, and I would be surprised if the inner pads are down.

The brake pads front and rear need to work together. Normally it is recommended to use a pad with the same friction on all wheels or us the more agressive pad in front.
Be careful just using any pad as it could result in uneven braking balance.
If you stay with the original pad in front, I would recommend the original pad in the rear as well.

Actually this might explain a few things. The used car lot said "they replaced my front brakes" as I was complaining it was pulsating during the test drive. Wonder if that's actually what's tripping the rear up. I have no idea what parts did they actually use or if they just machined the rotors.

I'll take it to a shop today and have a deeper check.

Case solved. As it turns out it was the inner pad. One side was wearing really thin. Guess it was my bent rim.

Off to order some parts...

inner pad going first is not abnormal on floating calipers.

Actually I somewhat know what the problem is. One of my rim is bent, probably accelerated the pad wear. It was worse on one wheel versus the other.

It's OK now, I'm on my new winter rims, I'll sort that other issue out maybe during spring, but that's when it goes back in storage...

Got my pads replaced, did the service reset. Now it's back at only 19000km? Is that an estimate based on how long the last pads held up?

It was actually the inner pad that was gone. I replaced everything from the rotor to sensor.
