A true M variant, or M seatbelts, carbon fiber mirror caps, M seats, etc.

In my original post above, I gave them credit for the great drive assist pro system. I think BMW is on the right track for autonomous driving, and I personally don't see this being an issue from a competition prospective for BMW, hence it was not mentioned. The post is rather focused on things that are going wrong or not on track for the BMW X7.
Yes, I saw that you mentioned The Driver Assist Pro is ahead of its class expect vs Tesla in your OP.

Not sure if this fits the discussion, but when you elect the shadow line package. BMW, please make the rear badges black and the chrome strip going the full horizontal length of the SUV should automatically darken with the theme. Other manufacturers black out packages truly don't leave any chrome on the exterior!

Also, BMW needs to tune the exhaust for the M60i variant to be just a little more aggressive and louder.

I agree!

On the M60i, BMW should at least put M Badging on the side doors in the US market. I think the side badging distinguishes it from the M-sport 40i. Strictly in terms of side profile.

For me the single most important feature is foldable captain chairs. I had to go to bench seat because of this feature though I love the captain chairs.

Looking at the design of the captine chairs, I can’t find a single reason that they designed that way without being able to get them to fully fold. The only design aspect that I thought of is if the back of the seat was designed to be too long, and hence there is not enough space for it to fold without hitting the front seat. Still, even this is easily fixable. I think it was a big mistake by the designers as they have underestimated how many users would would captine chairs to be fully foldable…. BMW makes interesting design decisions, but most of them are debatable and likable by some, however this particular one has merits whatsoever to be designed that way.

Honestly, I am surprized that no third party company has come up yet with a design alternative that they could have made a ton of money from… All of us would buy it…. But I guess it would be too expensive hence nobody wanted to take the risk of putting the R&D in it.

Any easy fix if they have designed the back of the seat to be at least fully “removeable” like a snap in/out type of locking mechanism. In the very rare events one would want the space, It’s fine that the entire back seat needs to be removed if the process does not take more than a few min…. Right now, there is not even a time consuming solution available. In summary, designers could have been slightly smarted if they wanted to, but they didn’t want to.

Yeah, I saw those as well. I am most likely going to invest in those along with the rear blacked out badging as well.

Should have been standard with the shadow line package IMO.

Are these considered an OEM type of accessory? I have never seen them on any factory optioned X7....

No, it is not an option. You will see them standard on any X7 M60i's that are sold outside of USA. Especially in the Canadian and European market.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it but a trailer hitch that would still allow the hands free lift gate would be nice. Other brands have it

I don't think this is really true. A "fully loaded" 40i will top out around $105k. A fully loaded GLS 450 is very similarly priced. The BMW however is FAR superior in material quality and interior color/trim options. Base prices are also identical at $77,850. The GLS, which is the X7's primary competitor, also doesn't have a cooler/fridge in its center console, rear ventilated seats, rear massaging seats, or automatic doors.

BMW is not a price bargain compared to its competitors. That's a misconception. But they IMO produce the best large SUV in its class today. These wish lists are nice to haves, but BMW will option their SUV exactly as they see fit to maintain competitiveness.

I was probably off with predictions for the 40i vs GLS 450, but this is still true for the M50i vs GLS 580. The GLS 580 fully optioned is 132,312 USD excluding any additional accessories or delivery fees. If we don't count the $5K frozen color and instead have one of the $1950 metallic paints similar to the GLS, a fully loaded M50i is still 119,630 USD.

I really like the digital rear view mirror. Nothing will block your view as it is a camera feed. It gives you a very wide range of the traffic behind you. It works at any speed. My friend has it in her Cadillac Escalade. I love it.

Bigger gas tank! I came from two GL’s before my first X7 and the 21.9 gas tank capacity was a big shocker. The current GLS has 23.8. Wish they could get this one larger. Constantly filling up, especially with the V8 engine.

Yes. For the exact same options, the GLS is significantly more expensive. Which is shocking, because the interior finishes aren’t nearly as nice IMO. Mercedes makes so many options an “add on” that jack up the price. My current order for the M60i was $117, and when I went to build the exact same optioned GLS, it was around $130. Crazy.

I think most manufacturers try to get close to the 400-450 or maybe 500 miles per tank and then no matter how small the tank is, they won’t make it bigger to beyond the 500 miles/tank. I am getting close to that number on my 50i with a full tank ~450 miles, not to mention that range can even better on highways under eco mode. The 40i can even get 550 miles. I had a few other vehicles with 500+miles range, but those were sedans. I don’t recall ever having an SUV with much higher range per tank than the X7 (most of them were close to 400-450 miles or less). To me, this range is more than enough for long trips (I have to stop so stretch my legs at least once or twice every 500 miles).

For this aspect, I feel that we should look at the range with full tank than the size of tank. BMW is more fuel efficient than Mercedes. End of day the 2 gallon delta that you are looking at isn't going to impact how long the vehicle can go before the next fill up.

I got about 532 miles on the tank before fuel reserve message showed up last time. It took close to 20gallons for fill up. I could have easily gotten 560-570 before car dried up.

Make full extended shadowline standard. Excess cheap faux american chrome should be the option if you want it instead. The only acceptable chrome part on a BMW should be the kidney, but now they are too large its excessive chrome by my standards.

In 2019, the full extended shadow line option will blackout all the trim pieces except the front grill and exhaust tips, which I think looks great (especially for the chrome exhaust tips vs blacked out ones).

Oh they changed it? Cause extended on my 21 Msport I have blacked out everything.

People have mentioned how iDrive keeps changing and for longtime owners the changes I think are annoying but new to BMW people is what they are focused on. Road trip in the M4 this weekend and even my wife was complaining how buttons change and move compared to what she's used to. She said "I don't know how you stand it since you drive so many different BMWs". Buttons moving, changing, function different, I have complained for a long time but it seems to happen more often now. I think I have been through 3 diff locations for auto high beams and that's a newer functionality, steering wheel heater has been different 3 times also. One that really pissed me off was they changed the zoom map functionality, whatever clockwise/counter in/out on the X7 is it use to be the opposite it, changed on anything after the F25 & E70 I think.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this any other thread.

What about a integrated Dashcam or Sentry mode such as in a Tesla?

There are so many after market dashcam brands, I just have to do my homework on which one is good.

sentry mode yes
For integrated dash cam, is it extended version for drive recorder that you are referring to?
