X7 was in a wreck yesterday. Waiting on a quote for repairs, but I wanted to get some advice on cost.
I was told the axel may be broken. It was just the front right that is damaged. The hood will need replaced, all the exterior on front right, and more interior parts on that side. The car still runs. What am I looking at in terms of being able to salvage the car? Unfortunately I don’t have insurance on it, we were in a gap so it’ll be out of pocket. It’s a 2022, hoping it won’t be more than 10k. It is owned - I paid for this car in full, no loan. I’d like to repair it if possible instead of taking a complete loss. Edit: Based on what I’m seeing from you all, repairs will be around 20k. Worth it to keep the car? Or should I repair then try to resell it? What are the best options here. I could continue to drive it for years to come until it’s had it, or I could sell it with repairs as a salvaged vehicle. |

You’re looking at $20K+ right there. Not even sure it’s worth fixing and paying for given the amount.
Estimate based on what I’ve seen in other posts. Plus you mentioned axel may be broken. Looks like that laser light is toast. New bumper, hood, front quarter panel, tire/wheel, brakes, suspension, paint, and the labor for all of it. Hope you don’t have a loan on this . |

Did you say you don't have insurance on it? Wording is confusing, sorry.
But looking at that, I bet that's way over $10K especially if you're trying to get mostly OEM, etc. Just lights themselves are insanely expensive. |

I mean you could “Goonzquad” it and do the repairs yourself, but that’s a ton of work.
May just want to sell it for salvage and take the hit. Hope it wasn’t a recent purchase. |

Body work and paint will not cost you much given that you need new parts.
Most of the parts you need are not that expensive as people think (and body work and new paint via new parts is cheaper than fixing pre-painted panels). However, with the axle borken and headlights, those two will be the major cost driver. Without axle and headlights, you could have been close to 10 USD, but headlights and axle or suspension problems will drive that cost way up. BUT!... get used headlights from ebay, you may find them for 1-2.5K only. If you do all the leg work, you might be able to get it done for $15K, but I agree with others that OEM repair will exceed 20K. Last edited by BMW5and7; 01-19-2023 at 10:18 PM.. |

I think $20K is a bit low, definitely NOT under $10K.
Just to give you an idea, if you go OEM parts (approx.):
That doesn't even include any of the support, structure, wheel, axle, painting or any other damaged pieces you may need, AND labor (big one). As suggested, you may go with eBay parts on this, but you still will blow the $10K threshold. X7 is one VERY expensive vehicle to repair. |

Brutal damages. I am gonna say closer to $28k in damages. I don’t see a way of fixing that much damage and still have any residual value left in the car.
I own all my own cars as well but it’s illegal to drive anywhere without insurance. Did you get a fine for driving without insurance as well? This is a tough situation. |

i'm going to wager its going to be closer 30K+ of damage. the front axle damage is going to push it over.
the labor is what will kill you. if you are near a major metro. last spring repaired an X3 with much less damage and the bill was close to 20K, and there was no structural damage, just bumper and two door skins. labor is the killer. if you broke the axle you probably tweaked the front suspension or the frame.

So sorry about your situation. Not sure you have many good options. Price out the repair as well as salvage value and then make a decision based on that. I think you may be between 20 and 25k like most have said. Repair cost plus salvage value recovered may well make it better to move on.

Well, not sure what would drive a salvaged title…you may be able to repair and keep a clean title.
Also, if you repair it might as well keep it. Is this your only car or do you have something else to drive? If not your only car then you’ve got lots of time to repair. You could source the parts from eBay, copart, dealer if needed. Heck, you may be able to find paint matched parts from copart. It’s a pre-LCI so they’ve been on the road for a number of years…I’m sure there are quite a few of them already totaled and being parted out. Maybe even start a YouTube vlog for your repair journey. |

sorry about the situation. I had a way less impact on a 5 series on the passenger side, but similar to parts that you are looking at, it ended up costing close to 15k at dealer ship. That's being a stickler to use oem only parts.
Headlight and wiring harness for sensors, camera and headlight being the major contributors to that bill. With that being said, if you want the car to be perfect, 20k is a conservative estimate. If you are touching any electronics , wiring, that's going to shoot up. What I learnt is these wiring harness are not plug and play. These are to be customized after you buy a standard one. |

This was a little over $20k in damages on my GLS. That looks closer to the $30-35k range to me. But I’m not expert. Good luck!

It that happened to me, I’d just eat the cost and get it repaired right and plan to hold onto it for at least 5yrs.as resale will kill you at this stage. Granted, I would never drive a vehicle without insurance

In an effort to cheer you up...
X7 is a great vehicle. Fix it and hold on it for 5-6 years or more, and you won't feel u r driving an old or outdated vehicle until at least 10-years from now. So sorry that happened. |

Easy decision. I have no idea why everyone is talking salvage...
Dealers are still paying crazy cash on trade ins. Take it to a good BMW dealer and trade it in as is. Salvage it and take a $20-$30,000 hit in the face. Fix it yourself and spend $20-30,000 and then be stuck driving a smashed and fixed car. If the X7 cost $100,000 and the dealer will give you $70,000 on a trade in, you will still be out the $20-$30,000 dollars but you will be back in a new car and you get a fresh warranty too!
