Alpina XB7

OK back in Feb I went to my local BMW dealer as I wanted something more comfortable than my G63 and I placed an order for an XB7.
I was told it would be a couple months, well that turned into a few months and now about 2 weeks shy of 9 mths I got the call my Alpina has arrived at the dealership.

I went this morning to test drive it but kinda had decided I was going to pass on it for a few reasons but wanted to drive it to to make sure. Well a few minutes into the drive I knew I had to have it and to be honest with a Escalade V costing as much as the XB7 and a Yukon loaded is 100K the XB7 seems like the best value for your money.

Onto the test drive. I did not really want to rag on it as it was likely going to be my car. At first I thought there is no way this is a fast car from the feel as it was so smooth but I looked at the speedometer and was SHOCKED at how quick we were going! The XB7 is so smooth it is unreal! I put it into sport mode just to hear the exhaust and WOW it sounds better than my 2018 G63. The XB7 gurgles and burps LOL

I ordered the Alpina Blue, Alpina walnut nature black trim, black full merino, captains chairs, shadow line trim, the B&W sound system with the 21 in wheels (Michigans pot holes eat the 23 in Alpina wheels!)

I will be picking it up early next week and can't wait!

Enjoy

I was like you. Test drove the beast looking for reasons to decline and within a few minutes I knew I had to get it. Traded in my 2016 Full size Range Rover v8 and signed the paper work.

It is amazing fast. Too fast for me, ha ha, I hit 102 mph in a 45 zone today in approximately 50 yards (I'm guessing), getting by some slower traffic.....Low end torque endless. The brakes are superb-gratefuly. All done with supreme comfort and luxury.

PS- make sure you carefully read the Alpina specific brochure provided with your owners manual regarding break in and other recommendations a short 10 minute read-it's a must.

Thanks, I have been trying to find it online to read ahead of time.
I anticipate picking it up next Wed or Thur.
There were several times I considered emailing my sales rep to cancel and get my deposit back, as I said today I even went in thinking I was going to pass. So glad I never emailed him with thoughts of cancelling!

Im sure I exceed the break in rules a little on my test drive today but I drove less than 10 miles and never beat on it.
I will follow them going forward when I read up. Id imagine it's the same as the M3 I had a few years ago.

BTW it only had 4 miles when I sat in it. The car was locked on the showroom floor and marked sold when I walked in with a bow on the hood LOL they said they had a few clients in looking at it wanting to test drive and buy it but as I had a deposit they considered it a sold car unless I told them otherwise. I was pretty impressed! I will admit when I saw the sold sign I was like FUDGE they sold it on me...

Mine will be arriving soon and I was having second thoughts also until I read this thread. I guess I will just have to pay MSRP.

Test drive it before you decide.
I am coming from a 2018 G63. I have had a LX470 a Wrangler Rubicon unlimited a couple M3s, several grand Cherokees and lots of other stuff and this was the most comfortable car Id ever driver other than the Range Rover BUT everyone I know with Rovers has nothing but problems with them. If I cared about off roading I would go for the Rover but for an all around city/highway driver which can handle the snow and ice of Michigan winters the XB7 was the winner for me. I debated the GLS63, the Rover and the XB7

I’ve got 4,000 miles on mine and I got it back in July. Still loving the experience of driving it everyday. Mine came with the 23” wheels and I didn’t order it so I didn’t have a choice. Tomorrow it goes in for the winter tires. I ordered a 21” winter wheel and tire package.

what dealer did you get yours from? I can find any on dealer lots in CT (when I last looked) and I'd prefer to build my own.

You can't... it's electronically limited up through 350 miles on the odometer.

Once you get to 351 miles tho, watch out...as others have said, this is a beast! But if you can afford an XB7, you can afford a speeding ticket or two....

My dealer has an Alpina XB7 sitting at their showroom for over 2 weeks now. It looks amazing and although I haven’t driven one I think your experience on how smooth the car drives applies to all X7. It is just a fantastic feeling to drive it. I wish the Alpina offered an all black front grille similar to what you get on the M Sport package. I also wonder why it kept the old style gear knob vs the new one. Overall, it looks like a beast but way too much for what my wife needs to drive to the gym. BTW, someone here mentioned Escalade. I wonder why people spend that much money on a car that has a huge history of having so many problems.

My friend has a X7 M50i which I have driven.
The Alpina is ever smoother and handles corners better.

I got mine from Morristown, NJ BMW (Open Road) back in July.
Saw it online at TrueCar website because it had just been listed that day, called and negotiated price in 30 minutes, put a deposit down and went the next day to NJ and finished paying and drove it home. I did pay $4,000 over MSRP. I think it was worth it. Alpina Green with Tartufo interior. captains chair seating. B/W speakers. I’ve had a Range Rover, a Porsche, a BMW X5M and I never had as many comments from strangers loving the color and vehicle as the XB7. For CT dealers I tried to get through New Country in Hartford, North Haven and Waterbury but no one could get a vehicle in production for me. I was told 6-9 months at least back in June, so I started searching online from that moment.

Same Way I found My XB7

Fly- that's exactly how I found my XB7, saw a listing on line cars.com, no photo as it was in route from SC. I called dealer here in Atlanta and was in vehicle 4 days later. The salesman sent me a video of the XB7 being unloaded from trailer. Traded in my full size 2016 RR v8. I get a lot of comments on the green paint as well. There is a 2024 blue here at Nalley BMW that's been sitting since July. I am shocked no one has driven away!

OK now I am really getting excited!
I was able to move some things around in my schedule and will be picking it up Tue morning.

I think I will be taking it straight to the shop near me for tint and PPF or a ceramic coating (not sure which yet, need to learn more)

Also do any of you tint the sunroof? If so what % do you suggest without being too much for the LED lighting?

Any other tips/suggestions?

I ordered in May, Looks like it gets built on 12-13. Been a long road, I have wanted to cancel and pick something else up but I have held fast as I have been in a few Alpina's, they are just different in all the best ways. Fingers crossed the dealer can get it so I can pick it up before we leave for Hawaii for Xmas.

There's a lot of people on here that I have tinted the skylight without affecting the LED lighting. I would think that tinting the skylight could only enhance the LED lighting since it would block more light from coming through and thereby washing out the LED lighting. The darker the better, I would think.

OK
Just made an appointment for PPF on the front and ceramic on the rest of the XB7 as well as some tint on the sunroof and front side windows.
When I pick up the XB7 tomorrow or Wed its going straight in there where they will store it inside till they can start the process Monday (I don't want to drive it much before that's done as Id hate myself if I got a stone chip before I did it).
I am getting very excited to say the least.

Just went in to pay and do all the paperwork.
I snapped a couple quick pics of it on the showroom floor.
I will be picking it up tomorrow morning and taking it straight to the spa for PPF, ceramic and tint!
They are busy so odds are I wont have it till the end of next week but Im excited to say the least.
Now I need to come up with a custom plate for it....
