GT3 RS in GT Silver

A dear friend of mine happened upon a new car.
I have a '17 911 GTS and this RS is leaps and bounds ahead. It is brilliant to say the least.

Looks great.

Are you sure it's Rhodium and not GT Silver? I believe Rhodium was discontinued before they ramped 991.2 RS production and only GT Silver was left as an option but I could be wrong.

And friends don't let friends drive with orange side markers. Have him grab some clear ones ASAP.

A plain GTB? Absolutely. A Pista or whatever the up level F8 is called would be comparable to the RS, not a 488 GTB or F8 Tributo.

At Laguna Seca, the regular 488 GTB lap time is 1:31:68. The GT3 RS time is 1:33:29. Both driven by Randy Pobst. Not saying lap time determines which a better car, but personally I'll get the 488.

Different tracks tell different things. But for me, n/a is more desirable than turbos. Of course both would be the best answer.

Great looking car and lovely photos.

Pet peeve of mine in the first 2 shots, with the wheels turned that direction, you should shoot the car from the other side. Personal opinion of course Straight wheels is best.

Yes.

Especially if it's my only "supercar". If I could afford a 3-car stable then maybe you'd find a Ferrari, but I'd more likely have a Performante or 720s in there (or a 458 as a long-term keeper).

Many people that can afford a 488 GTB don't want a 488 GTB. Too flashy, not practical (not that the RS is "practical", but compared to the 488 it is). Ferrari ownership isn't really something I'm interested in...I have no need to impress the ladies in South Beach, Hollywood, or wherever most F-car owners go to boost their ego.

Basing it on lap times isn't the most fair comparison either. Most times, the RS will win but depending on the track and driver you may see the 488 edge the RS...but the wear-and-tear and running costs of a 488 for regular track duty far exceed that of a GT3. So if frequent track-duty is your objective, the RS still makes more sense to me. Unless you have so much money you don't care about the 488 upkeep in which case you may as well just keep looking at higher tier cars. McLaren Senna for regular track duty...why not.

If you were to give me a free GTB I wouldn't turn it down. But when it comes to my own money, I'd go RS. I'm sure plenty of people would go the opposite but they are likely looking for different things. For what I paid for my GT3 I could have gone 458...if that gives you any real-world indication of what I would choose.

I quoted the lap time but I personally prefer the 488 over the RS has nothing to do with lap time. I prefer the 488 over the RS on pure driving pleasure on something as simple as a trip to Star Buck to get a cup of coffee or to a local market to get a pack of beers.

Also if someone is able to afford a 488 will probably be able to cover the cost of track expenses.

Oh so you've driven both? Unless you're purely talking about how you want to be seen (i.e. you get more pleasure being seen in a 488 than an RS), otherwise I think you'd be very surprised with how much you may prefer the drive of the RS. But yes, I think many people just feel more "special" in a Ferrari and there's nothing wrong with that.

Ehhh not that simple. You know how the rich stay rich? By making sensible choices. The cost in basic consumables (tires, fuel, etc.) might be the same but the 488 simply won't take the same long-term track abuse as well as the RS. You'll start to see more major maintenance items in much less mileage with the 488.

Even those that are able to afford the 488 don't want to throw $XXk out the window. Most people got to that status by carefully not throwing money away in life (many, not all). Not arguing you can't track these cars, but a hardcore track rat probably isn't looking at the 488 GTB. The guy who wants to do 1-2 casual HPDEs a year, sure.

I am not arguing with you either. My 488 will be a garage queen.

I could shoot from the other side, or I could turn the wheels, but I shot it the way I wanted to.

It's great to have opinions and personal preference, or no one would have red wheels.

You arenít Randy and canít drive like he can. You realize that in the real world that 1.5 sec difference doesnít matter. By the time you say ONE then TWO and inhale the RS just finished behind the 488 GTB on the track.
