More on that note, My X7 delivery has been unexpectedly delayed so the dealer gave me a base X5 40i loaner in the meanwhile. Coming from the Cayenne S, I have to say I'm really impress by the new X5 on how smooth it is.

Fingers crossed my X7 delivery will happen soon.

That's a nice dealer!

VW group, Daimler and BMW have many common suppliers so they all have access to similar technology in each product generation. The current generation of x5/x7 and cayenne are excellent and expect Mercedes gls/gle to be good too.

The big suppliers are Bosch, Continental, Magna, Tenneco, Lear, Valeo and a few others.

Is the S more in line w/ the 5.0iM or is that GTS territory?

Smart move by dealer, good biz!

This is not correct. I also drive the new base Cayenne. The 0-60 is 5.9 sec., (see below, culled from porsche USA website), that makes it way slower than the base X5 and even slower than the X7 40i. I will however, not want to compare Cayenne with X7 as they are not in the same category (small-mid SUV vs full size SUV)

Yes the S I had was probably comparable to the 50i, both in terms of power and price. Although I had the plug in hybrid version. The V6 3.0 was good for 300 ish HP plus the electric (100 ish HP) for a total of 400 ish HP. Unless you floor it, the electric motor doesn't kick in, so most of the time I wasn't using the instant torque provided by the electric motor. In that way, it was pretty comparable to the 40i.

Overall quite impress by the 40i so far.
Also got a 7er as the loaner but some diplomat got there before me

The Cayenne is probably classified as a mid size. Macan would be the small size.

Well, had a lot of hiccups in getting this X7, I'm really not impressed. The SA is also a personal friend.

Car and driver tested the new cayenne base engine at 0-60 in 4.8 sec using the launch control.

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...y-the-numbers/

Base engine x5 4.0i tested 0-60 in 4.9 and 5.0 respectively by car and driver and motor trend. Note both bmw and Porsche are using 3.0l turbo 6 cylinders with "335hp" which I think is sand bagged. Lincoln's aviator 3.0l Turbo is rated at 400hp which I think Porsche and BMW are actually doing.
