Purpose of the holes beside fog lights

Does anyone knows what is the purpose for the holes beside fog lights as shown on the picture?

Not completely sure on the X7 but previous BMW's had a much smaller hole than that and it allowed you to adjust the fog light aim/level with a flathead or Allen key. That's what it's probably for. If you peek through it with a flashlight, you should be able to see.
