I saw yesterday that BMW has announced the Spartanburg plant will be closing on April 3.
I ordered my car on March 5 and the status flipped over a few days ago to Production Begins. I called the genius line this morning and was told my car is scheduled to be completed on April 1. I guess there’s a chance it sneaks out of the factory and onto a transporter before everything shuts down, but I’m assuming it will be delayed. As excited as I am to get my car, with everything that is going on, a delay would be a minor inconvenience rather than something to worry about. I’m also lucky in that lease on the car the X7 is replacing runs through mid June, we have another car, and we’re not doing much driving at the moment. Even if it turns out to be a multi month delay, I’ll be fine with it. |

That's what is happening in my neck of the woods also. Full shutdown where you're supposed to stay at home so the dealerships are closing sales and will keep only service open. I have a vehicle arriving later this week so most likely I'll have to wait 3-4 weeks to get it....we'll see.

We are in week #2 of a 4 week shelter in place, local dealer service dept are open but sales showrooms are closed. But they are all doing online sales now where you can test drive or take delivery of vehicle at your home (they bring it out to you), and do all paperwork via email. At no point do you come into direct contact with anyone from the dealership. Same for service, they can bring you a loaner to your home and pickup your car for service. They will wipe it down when they exit the vehicle.

I hope everything works out for you guys. Nobody knew this was coming, of course, but I wonder if I may have waited too long, in my extreme research and savings, holding off buying the X7. I've now lost $25k from my X7 savings fund in the last 3 weeks, and who knows what's going to happen, given the associated economic crisis as well. Would be really bad if I pulled my money out of the stock market now.
Of course, I really had to wait, since I've been working overseas, and it would be pointless for me to have a new X7 sitting undriven back home. In fact, I'm still in India, and now stuck here, as the country has closed. Maybe if this crisis passes and I make it back this summer, with continued employment, I'll buy a MY2021 model in the fall, and hopefully even get a deal on it. But we'll see how it all goes. Hope everybody is healthy, but also staying in economic security and no issues with continued X7 ownership. |

Yup, was originally scheduled for April 3-19, now it's moved up to March 29-April 12th.
Looks like those of us that had cars in production with estimated completion dates of April 1st may not get our cars now for a few more weeks. |

Just called the Genius line to check on my X7 scheduled for completion on 4/1. The guy I spoke to said the system is still showing 4/1 at this point, so I'm assuming that means it will still be in progress when the factory shuts down, and production will be completed whenever the factory reopens.

It will close as of this Sunday the 29th through the 12th. If they rush to production to squeeze out the last few vehicles I would be concerned about QC issues. For anyone taking delivery before or after I would go over the vehicle in detail before signing and driving off. If there are some issues notate them with the SA before leaving.

My X7 has been in the "Production Begins" (3rd dot) state for a week now, the automated system says it's estimated completion date is April 1st. I asked the genius guy if that means it will not be finished in time before the factory shuts down on Sunday. He checked with his supervisor. What the supervisor said is that my vehicle likely has not started production and would've started around Monday the 30th. He says usually the production starts 2 to 3 days before the estimated completion date. I asked him why the online system and the automated system says my vehicle production has begun, He says that means the parts for my vehicle has been sent to suppliers and has started production at their suppliers, and usually means the parts will arrive at the BMW factory 3 to 4 days before the estimated completion date. So at this point it looks like those of us who had April 1st estimated completion dates, our vehicles haven't' actually started assembly, and likely won't until whenever the factory opens up again. The supervisor did add that whenever the factory opens up again, they will not be at full capacity and there will be a controlled ramp up so any estimates the system gives may not be accurate. (The system assumes normal full speed full capacity production) Looks like my quest to get a new vehicle stretches on into month 14 with no end date in sight... For me, if I'm spending nearly $100k on something, then I am going to get exactly what I want instead of "settle" for something. |

Called the Genius line this morning. My car is still showing a 4/1 scheduled completion date, but that's obviously not going to happen with the plant closing yesterday.
The guy I spoke to said he isn't expecting that date to be updated until the plant reopens. |
