But yeah, BMW should have included a LSD in the performance package for the E46, too. |

Imagine telling someone that it has a LSD, and they go, "I CAN FEEL THE DIFFERENCE!" |

Both front and rear diffs will still use engine throttling and wheel braking (ie. DSC/DTC) to control the slipping wheel to transfer torque to the other non-slipping wheel.

Quaife is amazing....:rocks: I installed one in my G35, it was a HUGE benefit. The Quaife is a Torsen style unit. No popping/snapping/binding & noise like a clutch style. and as far as the viscose style.... hardly worth the effort I would definitely install a Quaife in the 335i when the time comes. |

No problem with the Quaife being tough enough. They have a great rep. |

Isn't the DSC like having a LSD?
It puts power to the wheel that needs it and slows the wheels that don't. I've driven both, and I can personally say, I like the positraction with the assistants of a computer sensor slowing the inside wheel to keep the momentum of the car moving forward way better. For every day driving that is. From BMW's web-site. " The system continually processes data from the anti-lock braking wheelspeed sensors. Any time a rear "drive" wheel begins to lose traction, the system modifies the engine's electronic throttle and ignition timing to reduce torque. It also can act on each rear brake individually or simultaneously, as needed, to bring wheelspin under control. Dynamic Traction Control aids driving in deep snow or sand." The same yeah??? Maybe not??? But I like it.

Kinda like having a gold-plated ring vs. the real gold thing. Both look nice, but only one is truly gold. As mentioned by previous posters, most (probably 99.99%) drivers will only need DSC in their type of driving. The LSD is really for certain drivers who appreciate it around corners, and especially for cars with higher hp and torque, the 335i for example. Instead of being slowed down by the computer/DSC shutting down the power by applying individual braking and/or cutting the throttle back, the LSD (due purely to its mechanical design) allows the power to be laid down to the ground evenly with little slip and little lost energy. Here, maybe this link will help to explain it better than I can: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm
