I just emailed my SA regarding this:
9:59 AM (6 minutes ago) to me I have just confirmed with my shop foreman that there is nothing done to the ECU BUT when we do the break-in service and reset the service lights it also removes the REV limiter , therefore it may feel like there is more “Power”. Thanks, ------------- They removed the REV limiter? Dang, someone try it out!

Just had my run in service today at Scotthall in Borehamwood. The chap said no to any ECU changes.
I've been brave during my run in, using M button often but sticking to less than 5500rpm and not burying the throttle but giving the car the good blasts of acceleration to vary road and engine speed. Anyway, to echo some of the other comments on the drive back home the car feels very similar post service. Gearbox feels a bit less clunky and more slick. But now I can rev the nuts off it, and double de-clutch down changes safely, I'm using the power of the engine 5000-6000rpm rather than relying on the torque. (Overboost didn't seem spectacularly different to M mode acceleration). So the car feels quicker. But I think it's no faster. Discuss... |

Well, while at BMW service having the stainless steel pedals and front grill getting replaced, the M mobility system's compressor just disappeared and it is not restored yet! The same service did not know anything about the 2000 km. run-in service, they insisted on 10,000 km. and they had wrong info. about what must be done during that service. They even gave me wrong information about the warranty period and coverage. Last but not least, they told me that my car will be delivered with something like 80 km. on it and this is just normal, a week after that the car arrived with just 1 km. Ah, and in one important document they also replicated the VIN wrong!
All of the above has been corrected by me through making calls, sending mails, wasting lots of precious time that I wish I could spend with the car, or at work or with my family. It is really annoying and it distracts me from enjoying the car sometimes. Yes, you should get worried about everything all the time without being paranoid, unfortunately it is like this. |

Sorry to resurrect this thread but have any other UK 1M owners taken this up with the dealer who performed the running in service ? Have just asked my dealer to confirm whether the unlocked ECU has been applied to my car.

Just speak to the service manager at Specialist Cars, Stevenage, 01438 760200 one of the biggest ///M centres in the UK. They confirmed to me that when my car comes in they will map the car as it is detuned when it first arrives in the country.

Thanks Jez. I actually spoke to Paul at specialist cars earlier today. Absolutely top man, v knowledgable and passionate about //M cars, with 18+ years of experience with these cars. Makes a nice change from many of the dealerships where the techs are not as experienced.
Basically, he confirmed the resetting of the service status via iSys should be enough, it doesn't necessarily need to contact BMW in Germany. This is only required where UK dealers' system software hasn't been updated for new models (eg. It was the case for the 1M a few months ago, and is the case for the new f10 m5). Anyway, he has kindly offered to check whether there is a way to confirm the car is operating as it should. I will report back when he responds. |
