Programming garage door opener

Does anyone have any instructions or directions on how to accomplish this? I know it’s not that complicated but did some reason I can’t get it to work. I think I have what they call a rolling code garage opener. Any tips are appreciated.

Did you look in the little book that came in the glove compartment?

Homelink depends on synchronizing the opener mechanism and the car, so it takes more steps. Usually you press the learn button on the head unit mounted in the garage (ladder required), and then within 20 seconds you press the button in the car. It may take up to 3 times before it learns, synchs and works. Much better if you have a helper.

I could not program mine via the opener in the garage, I had to use the remote inside the car to program, then it worked fine and was very easy.
Go to the manual in iDrive, search for the instructions and follow them, but use the remote only.

And you had a rolling code garage door opener?

From what I recall (it’s been quite a while) you had to use the learn button on the opener head first to synch the opener electronics with your car, and then the 2nd step was to use the remote in the car. This is because the rolling code feature needs to have both the opener and the car remote at the same code synchronization starting point.

For non-rolling-code openers you just use the remote in the car and have the car learn the remote signal.

I got mine to work and then it stopped working. So I’m back to using a remote opener until I have time to sit and figure it out again

Homelink is unnecessarily complicated.

The way I have been able to do it is like so. Put car outside the garage, close garage, press and hold the close button on your garage opener and at the same time press the button you want to program. And keep holding both until it's completely open. Then let off both buttons and then press and hold the button on the mirror you want to program again and you should see your garage light flash confirming it saved. If this does not work, try it with the door open, and do the same thing but first click the learn button on the garage opener, then go in the car and click the button to close it on the garage opener and your mirror at the same time. Then once it closes, let off both buttons and then press and hold the mirror button you want again. You should see it program.

I usually take my car and opener for a lil ride then teach one of the buttons in the car to be the garage door opener. Just hold the buttons in the car and opener at the same time until the car's light flashes in the sequence stated in the manual.

When I get back home I hit the learn button on the opener unit, quickly get back in my car and hit the button that I've trained to be an opener 3 X, and on the 3rd time it closes.

This way has worked perfectly for me for at least 14 cars since I've had this rolling code opener.

Good luck

I was doing this recently on a 2022 440, sitting in the garage and having two manuals at hand (for the car and the garage opener). Failed several times in a row. Then, I read the manual again (forgot which one) and realized it mentioned possible interference. - Took the car outside of the garage (~ 20 ft from the gate), the programming worked on the first time...
