Cold weather package

So I am guessing this is a moot point but.. when I ordered our 2021 X7, I didnt realize you had to select cold weather package to get the third row AC! So stupid! So we have a badass car with on AC in back. We dont use the seats often, but it is extremely frustrating when we do!

My wife has asked me several times if we can add it and I always tell her no.. but maybe I will ask anyways! Anyone have any knowledge on this subject?

When I first ordered my X7 and, like you, realized that the 3rd Row lacked AC I was extremely upset.

But after 4+ years of ownership I can tell you quite emphatically that it's fine, there is enough thrust from the 1st and 2nd Row air vents to cool the back of the car effectively. Especially true if you went with the Captain's in the 2nd Row, the large passthrough lets a ton of air through.

So chill, and tell your wife not to sweat it (pun intended).

As someone who has spent a lot of time and money on retrofits, I normally say that most options can be added after the fact if money is no object, but this one would be a no for me. In addition to putting in the parts for the third row A/C, you would have to replace many components of the original A/C system, plus replace several interior trim pieces, and modify/replace the headliner to accommodate the controls.

Unfortunately I think the answer to her would still need to be no lol.

Yup, the 3rd row hvac isnt just ducts. A full heat and a/c unit is installed in the drivers side rear quarter, with lines running to the engine compartment, different engine compartment components, etc. This would be one of those retrofits that it would be more cost effective to trade the car in for...

What about the heated steering wheel? Is that just a find a heated steering wheel and replace it?

Correct. I didn't realize ours didn't have the Cold weather package. The only item we really miss is the heated steering wheel. Is that a plug and play replacement?

d'oh, what year is your X7? looks like it was an option along with the armrests, and became fully standard more recently
heated steering wheel likely needs a swap of the wheel and the clockspring mech, module in the wheel, and addition of the on/off button plus coding.
doable but likely will be at least 1-2k

2020. I've done some initial research and I get a very clean heated wheel for 500. I figured double that for install and voila....done!

As mentioned, you might need to replace the Steering Column Switch Cluster (turn signal clockspring) depending on what other options your X7 has. You can check your options at mdecoder.com and enter your VIN. But all X7's in the US were sold with Driving Assistant as standard (option 5AS) which means you should have the correct Steering Switch Cluster.

So all you would need to do is replace the steering wheel and install the switch (which just plugs in to the back of the steering switch cluster), and then code option 248 to the car, and you should be good to go.
