X7 running boards

I ordered an x7 with m sport package for my wife but now I just told that we can not get running board with m sport package. Is this true? Does anyone have a remedy for that?

It’s true. For this one reason, I got Luxury instead of the Sport that I wanted. My dealer asked if there was any way to add them to Sport and was told no. Maybe there’s a way to add them after market.

Lots of discussion about those running boards on this thread. You may be better off without them:

No, not available with M Sport. I saw an M Sport X7 with running boards that was a pre-production press model, shown in the Middle East region. But that must have been a one-off.

Me, while I think they look nice, I can't stand the way they rub on my ankles every time. How they get my pants dirty. How they force me to step out wide every time I get out of the car. I will not be ordering them on my car.

Euro spec shows running boards on msport. I'm sure we'll be able to order and retrofit soon

LOL, yeah, those are the exact cars I saw in Abu Dhabi. Middle East GCC spec.

Good pictures and info, thanks!

I can definitely see that it's useful for some people. However, the boards do absolutely rub my ankles every time I step in and out. Don't know if it's a function of seating position, body height, leg length, or whatever. But not comfortable for me. No way I'll order them.

Don't get rid of the M-sport package, it's sweet. Just bolt on your own if need be, I did that on my last GLS.

Just measured it, it’s 17” from the ground to the running boards and then another 4” from there to get to the door sill. So 21” without the side boards. I can tell you observing my 7 year old very carefully these past few days that it would be a struggle to climb into the 3rd row without the running boards. Even getting into the 2nd row would be hard. The X7 is a high vehicle and the kids need two-steps to get inside.

Checked out the X7 today. Gorgeous car!

Those running boards do rub against your legs as you get out of the car, unless you step on them as you exit the vehicle. Definitely wouldn't be wanting them (but I can see them being useful/handy for certain owners with kids, etc).

I don't disagree with you about the normal height of the X7 being a bit high and accessing the 3rd row is even more challenging when at 'Normal' height. One thing I do every time before exiting is lower our X7 to the 'Lowest' level. This makes entry and exit easier but still the 3rd row is tricky without running boards. The downside to having them is dirty pant legs, the upside is easier access to the 3rd row.

Each buyer needs to assess what is most important and either include or exclude the running boards. They do look quite nice in the pics but I haven't seen them in person yet. The way we use our X7, we would never want them but others may need them. That's why they're optional.

Good post. Agree completely with all points. If one doesn’t have small children and doesn’t plan on using a ski rack or cargo box, the running boards can be skipped. But for the rest of us in that child/active lifestyle, IMO it’s a must-have. The X7 isn’t your typical SUV. It’s a big vehicle and that includes big wheels and high steps-up to get in.

How’d you get those?? It’s not an available option online, and my dealer even called to inquire and was told an unequivocal NO.

Mine is Canadian version. May be not available in US. But I am surprised why they would not make available in the US.

They have always shown them as an option on the BMW Canada X7 build your own website but my dealer told me they weren't available on the X7 M Sport in the Canadian ordering guide.Looks like he was wrong.Do you have more pics of your X7.

Why US Model has less option than the other parts of the world such as running board on M Sport Package and no M Badge on the side panels on M Sport as well.

Share similar sentiments.

Plus: 1) I like them cosmetically. 2) I like being able to step on them if loading the roof top box (especially the middle of the box) 3) Little feet appreciate them, especially kids.

Cons: 1) Adult legs scrape it when getting in and out in winter. 2) The depth makes it not that useable for me in in any season given my foot size. Only 1/3 of my foot on a potentially slippery surface not good for me. Lowest ride setting takes care of ingress/egress for all but a few adults, in my experience 3)When loading my roofbox I need to be careful given how little of my foot is planted on the rail. Not that big a deal but something to consider especially when wet or icy.
