Foot kick liftgate with trailer hitch

I just realized that the factory option trailer hitch apparently removes the ability to open the liftgate with foot kick... Can anybody with the trailer hitch confirm?

This is unbelievably stupid design, don’t know of any other manufacturer that does that...

Yes this is correct, there is no foot activation with trailer hitch

The kick still works in EU as long as the hitch is retracted. There is also a standard rear bumper and not some cut in weirdo that you get in US. Go figure

This is US standard, we always have to have things bigger and less functional...

I had a Q7 with a hitch. The kick open feature was on it but it never worked whenever I really needed it to open.....most other times, it would open!

I have a Q7 (trading it in for the beemer) and it works great! But you do have to hit the right spot with some accuracy... Going to miss it...

LOL, I still have my Q7 but I totally forgot about this feature since I never use it. Guess I won't be missing it then on the X7...

I ended up going with the Stealth Hitch route because I wanted to keep the kick sensor. It seems to work really well for me.

Right, I almost changed my order to go the same route, but my M50i already went into production, so I guess it’s too late...

Wonder why BMW wouldn't simply relocate the kick-to-open sensor to a different area when the trailer hitch is ordered.

I had the “kick to open” on my last G05 X5 and never used it. Only a woman can get away with making this little dainty kicking motion in public. A grown 6’3” man looks ridiculous making toe kicks under the bumper especially when it might take 2 or 3 tries. (had to be said)
Even when traveling with luggage I have never not easily touched the handle as it’s a power release anyway. The oem factory box trailer hitch at least give you a bike rack or any number of attachments you might not know you needed in the future. It’s also the best place for a quick and solid emergency recovery strap attachment point. That’s very rare on modern vehicles since aerodynamics has eliminated any direct attachment access to the frame.

Has anyone found a bumper cover to cover that ugly trailer hitch?

Am I the only one that isn't bothered by a visible trailer hitch on a fairly large SUV? Idk, maybe since ours is a rather dark color, it's just fine imo. I have the kick feature on my 340i and wish it wasn't there. When I need it to open, it won't and I look like an idiot swinging my foot in the parking lot, yet other times I can be grabbing something in the garage and because the key is in my pocket, the trunk randomly opens....LOL

I don’t even see it. Compared to other like the RSQ8, Bentaga etc... The X7 hitch is well hidden recessed back and very low.

It doesn't bother me at all especially on a darker color. Lighter color would probably bother me.
