Dismayed by first impressions

As an enthusiast with a good collection of vehicles including some of BMW's icons, I was excited to special order my M50i for the wife and kids. I'm shocked by how quickly I'm finding small issues with the trim.

The piano black individual trim arrived scratched and the dealer had no interest in addressing the issue. The scratches were small, but I didn't pay extra for damaged trim on day one.

Next I noticed the plastic backing on the front seats to have completely different gaps and the passenger seat trim appears to already be separating.

These are small items, but it is a $110K car that I've only spent about 30 min in so far and this is what I noticed right away. Makes me wonder what's lurking beneath the surface. Glad I leased! I'll just have to get over it.

Yes, they're in the same position. Just hopped in to adjust and make sure.

That's typical assembly in the USA and recommend to adjust expectation no matter price tag. I had all issues you mentioned but feel comfortable so far since my expectation is Tesla level workmanship. Not too much to worry about if you in a lease and live not far away from dealership. I had a lemon X5 and cost close to zero after BMW bought it back after one year ownership

Yeah, gotta agree with you on that one. Found a plastic piece of trim bouncing around in the underfloor storage of the cargo area. It's unfortunate and the Cullinan is just a couple hundred grand or so above budget. 😜

It does make me appreciate my little 1 series and my E39 M5. I wish Porsche made a three row vehicle comparable in size to the X7.

Overall, though, this vehicle is very impressive. So much tech and so powerful. It is nice to be in a cutting edge vehicle that's brand new. That's not something I often do and wouldn't have, but it was time for the wife to get something nice. This year was supposed to be my Targa 4 GTS order, but newborn twins shot that plan outta the water and far into the future.

My last two G05 and now G07 build quality has been perfect. And I am a bit OCD with materials and build quality.

My 40i stayed in my local dealership for a whole week right after I took my delivery at the beginning of this month, just to fix a ventilated seat noise. These cars have so many features, sometimes some of them may not working very well, but the car is impressive for most parts, enjoyed it so far.

The guy next door, MB GLS, ain't doing better so it's fair game nowIt's unrealistic to compare 5UX to WBA/WBS since the assembly just totally different level.

People here are on the same boat. Need people mover other than a van to carry people or bricks more than a 911 could take.
Glad that leasing option available so upgrade easily when budget grow to fit a Cullinan

that gap changes based on the angle the seat back is set to. that's not manufacturing, that's adjustment.

The tweeter in the corner of the drivers door had a finger gap while the passenger sat flush. I was able to remove it by pulling up with the window open and then reinstalling it to sit flush. Something that should have been caught in QC.

What kind of noise are you hearing? Fan noise from the headrest isn't normal?

I know the noise you are referring to, it's there when turn fan to max. but the noise in my seat is like the fan is trying to saw some parts inside seat, I happened to recorded it, enjoy the sound!
