Because everything here is run by politicians instead of scientists and as you know politicians suck and are motivated by special interest groups!!

I had this coded on my X6M. It worked well and cool. I was told it can not be coded on the laser lights.

I think you need to check your sources on that statement. When it comes to coding features on BMWs, if a feature is available in one region/country, but not another, the function can almost always be coded on (or off as the case may be). The only exception is if the feature requires additional equipment/hardware that must be installed. In some cases, BMW will install equipment that is region specific. However, that is not always cost effective from a supply chain management perspective - too many unique parts. It is more cost effective to install the same hardware in all vehicles, and then control features via software.

So in other words, as long as the correct coding parameters can be found (and BMW won't tell you, they need to be discovered by enthusiasts), just about any codable feature is available to anyone in any region.

Thanks guys. I will go back to my guy and ask if her can do it. He coded my car in March and told me it wasn't available for laser lights.

I would wait and get the 11/2020 software update when it is available first (somehow...give them a reason to update you) and then do it so it doesn't wipe out your dazzle coding.

Got it. The last update earlier this summer did wipe out almost all of the coding he did so I need to go back anyway.

Not to get too far into the weeds of the details of different types of coding, but getting your software updated by the dealer will not wipe out your Anti Dazzle coding. This has to do with how the anti dazzle coding is done compared to other types of coding.

I experienced the same thing on my M3 when I had the anti dazzle coding done. When my software was updated, most of my coding was wiped (as expected) - but not the anti-dazzle coding (also as expected).

That's interesting. This is the third car that I had coded and in the first two cars the software updates never erased any of the coding. In X7, almost all or all of the coded functions got eliminated.

Ok, well I guess I will explain a bit further....

To get anti dazzle to work on us spec cars, you need to remove an option code from your X7. Attached to your VIN are the option codes for every option in your build, including the option code to "turn off" anti dazzle. Once that option code is removed from your X7, anti dazzle will be turned on. Even if the dealer updates your software, the option code section of the software (also called the Vehicle Order or VO for short) remains unchanged. So your anti dazzle feature will remain intact.

When a dealer does a software update most, but not all, modules in the car are updated. What modules get updated depends on the update and what issues/features need to be addressed. So if you have coding in a module, but that module is not part of the update, the coding in that module will be unaffected.

This happened to me recently. A while ago I coded the default startup mode for my X7 to be Sport Individual, which involves coding one module, the BDC. My X7 was just recently updated to 7/2020.54 via OTA. That particular update did not touch the BDC so that coding remained intact.

Thanks for clarifying. The latest over the air update did erase most of my coding enhancements so it wasn't even done at the dealer. I will discuss with my coding guy and specify your point about anti dazzle.
